Bought a G75VW-DH72 with SSD - what not to install on SSD

I'm trying to figure out what "to or not to" install on the OS SSD. This unit has Win 8 installed. I usually have about 3 games at any time on my gaming laptop, usually in the Battlefield, COD, genre. I'm also interested in running PS2. My concern is of running out of space with a 256 GB SSD.

Other programs like Office, etc. I'll relegate to the HDD.

Thanks

normally, apps in the SSD, data in the HDD. but it's really all up to you; when the space is not enough or the system is slowing down, you will know what to do.

Just make sure you put all your stuff like videos, music, files etc in your HDD and install apps and games on the SSD. If you get slow downs in the future you can always fix that up by disabling startup items in msconfig, disabling some useless services, cleaning up junk and do registry scan.

I redirected all my "user" files like Documents, Videos, Pictures, etc to the hdd, I also installed Steam and Origin and CoD to the hdd. Its very fast even with the Steam files on the 5400 hdd. SSD manufactures recommend less than 75% filling the drive for best speed, and my 240GB Intel 520 is less than half full.

That's true for the previous SSD's. If you used up over 25%-50% space they would slow down. Now far as I know from the new gen SSD's like Corsair Neutron GTX 240GB they don't slow down.

Here's a link to show the differences in performance on the Corsair drive at different fill levels

Just got a brand new Intel 520. Comes with a program that does a weekly maintenance routine handles keeping at top speed and thats what they recommend. Its not and old vs new drive issue, it has to deal with the way the OS has to search for data in a completely different way than from hdd. Intel has free SSD software you can download. And always check the manufacturers site.
