Battery problem on G55

Hello everybody. i am one of the proud owners of a G55 Asus 😄 . but the problem is that the battery is not working, i mean i can't run the laptop on battery, only plugged in. the laptop recognizes the battery, it's showing me the power level of it, i think it charges it as well ( no sure, because the battery is now on 96% and the laptop doesn't charge it anyway at this level), but if i unplug the power supply with the battery mounted, the laptop dies( i did it twice, the first time was by mistake, because i had no knowledge if the issue, i was just shutting down the laptop and i thought it was a coincidence that it turned off and i unplugged it at the same time ). it's because of that controller inside that is responsible with any battery related things or ... :-?? . i still have warranty for another 1y and a half or so, so it's not costing me anything to repair it , but it's just bothering me, because a night before all was fine, and at least i want to know if i did something wrong that i can avoid for future. waiting for suggestions . sorry for the long post. thank you .

Well If you have verified that your notebook won't operate on the battery, I would call or email tech support you have warranty perhaps they will send you another battery. You also might try the store where you purchase this NB perhaps they will let you try one of there batteries to verify that the problem is the battery. and that you NB is charging correctly?

Welcome to the forums, @PaulCC91. No problems about a long post. That is strange. Try turning off the notebook, unplugging it from the wall, removing the battery, and pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds. Then, plug the battery back in and try booting the notebook from battery. You may need to discharge the battery somewhat and recharge it. Just a thought.

It sounds like your System management controller is messed up. To reset it as mentioned above you can try removing the batter and disconnecting the power plug and then holding the power button down for 10 seconds then put only the battery back in and try powering it on.

back with new info about the problem. first of all, the "10 seconds" idea , unfortunately, is not working. now, the info. a few days ago i mounted the battery trying to charge it. the laptop was telling me that "the battery is charging", after 5-10 minutes, the orange LED battery indicator started blinking and there was a warning telling me that there is a problem with the charging process and i removed the battery. today, after reading your tips, i putted again the battery, again "the battery is charging" and surprisingly it did, but in a strange way: it was at 93%, it remained at that level for about 15-20 minutes, then suddenly it jumped at 98% and since then ( almost 4 hrs ) it's staying at this level, the indicator is green, not blinking, all fine apparently , but still the laptop won't start with just the battery on. Now i'm trying to find someone with the same model to take his battery and see where is the problem. if the problem is the laptop, i think i'll leave it this way. i discussed the issue with other people and it turned out that is a quite delicate situation, not unrepairable but .... i really don't know .. i'll see ... if you guys have any other ideas, please share.sorry for the late reply , i had a few exams to take care of.

IF the battery is under warranty then Asus would replace it for free. I can't recommend this because I have no proof other than my own experience but I have over my gadget years fixed countless of malfunctioning batteries from phones, notebooks, consoles etc.. by placing it in the freezer for several hours inside a zip lock bag.

heard of this thing, tried it once with a battery from a power drill. it worked. thanks for the remainder , i forgot about it. if it works, i'll let you know.

nope, the freezing stuff isn't working either. it dropped back at 93% and is not charging, actually, hilarious fact, the battery is "charging" right now and from 93% went to 92 % :))))). i am pretty much sure that the problem is with the battery not the laptop itself, but i'll be more relieved if i could check somehow. the store isn't providing me another battery just to check, and i can't find another person with the same model to try his battery. i think i'll send the laptop in service, and asking them first to try turn the laptop on with another battery, and not to go inside the laptop for nothing. because i had a problem with another laptop ( Asus K72 ) sending it in service twice because of their fault, and i don't trust those "engineers". when you pay around 1000 euros for something, doesn't matter what, you want it to look and work the proper way.

I would definitely send the battery in, as it is likely bad. I have heard of the freezing technique for hard disks, never for batteries. You do want to be careful of freezing them, since they are not designed to operate at those temperatures.
