ive read about this fix in another thread, this issue with with shutdowns has been a thorn in my side for about 6 moths now and finally there is a new beta driver from nvidia
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-301.24-beta-driver-uk.htmlthat have made my g73sw alot more stable, infact it shut down every time i tried play caspian border in battlefield 3 within 1-60 min of play, now it has not shut down in about 4,5 hours of playtime.
ok its not the longest test period to put out a solid promise of fix but so far for me it has worked.
1. download
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-301.24-beta-driver-uk.html2. turn ON FXAA (even if u dont use antialiasing) and turn of all traditional antialiasing in teh game you are playing.
that did it for me even if i dont use Antialiasing in games.
the cause of the shutdown problem seems to be a safe mechanism in the gpu card that limits the power that goes into the gpu itself, then its thougth that the gpu sends a shutdown signal to the motherboard.
read the info on the new driver, its amongst other thing says that the FXAA technology inluded in this driver is 60 % faster than other AA and therefore consumes less energy.
this explination is the one many of educated people belive to be the problem with the 460m gpu, but its just a educated guess, anyway, it seem to work for me even with OC now;) wich it absolutly did NOT before!
try it! those of you suffering from this shutdown issue!
