Asus Manufacturer's Warranty vs SquareTrade?

I plan on sending in my G750 sometime later this year. I have two warranties: 1 year with Asus, and 3 years with SquareTrade (non-accidental).

Which company do you guys recommend I send in my G750 for repair? I guess it would make sense to send it to Asus, considering it's a product made by them and I'm posting this question on an Asus website. However, across my time here in forums, I have heard that Asus' warranty/support is unreliable, and.. just really bad with delays and handling.

Also, how would Asus know if I voided my warranty from taking out the top cover? I have never, and probably never will take out the top cover of the notebook; however, do you guys think they will suspect that I opened the top cover due to my gap issue?

I do not know how SquareTrade replaces hardware, but I'd assume that they would have to take out the top cover. Hence, this would void my warranty with Asus, wouldn't it? But, should I care if Asus warranty is so unreliable and horrid, when I can just send it to SquareTrade instead?

I really look forward to your input. Thank you.

Depends on the country you're in. Malaysia is terrible, yet I think America is alright.

I wouldn't take your unit for a repair, I'd get it replaced.. it's a defect, not a damage.

Also, the only way they'd find if you had opened the machine is if the screws in the unit were threaded or the paint peeled off of them. Also if things appear to be in a mannerism they shouldn't be.

The only warranty sticker inside the unit, is on the CPU sink's bottom left screw, which covers access to the chip (to practically repaste it ). That's all.

Thank you for your reply. I'm from USA, so I hope they're alright.

I'd love to get it replaced, but at the same time, I don't want to as well. The computer runs fine, and I just don't want to take up time setting up and reinstalling everything again. The replacement could also be worse. Plus, I'm already past my 14 day exchange policy from original purchase, so getting a replacement is too late anyways.

Oh. My. God.

I can't believe this, but I was able to get my full refund from TigerDirect today.
I feel.. so happy and relieved that I don't have to deal with all these problems any longer! Woot!

But, I feel a bit sad as well; the G750 are really great gaming laptops.

What other models do you guys recommend? Definitely not buying anything from TigerDirect nor the G750JS-TS71 anymore.

kraver0, TigerDirect is usually pretty cool, so I'm not surprised they made it right for you, and let you return a little past the return date 🙂

I wouldn't give up on that model if that is what you want, and since TigerDirect was cool about the return, it would be nice to give them another chance.

If you are planning on keeping this laptop, when you get a good one, for a long time, you might as well bump up to the JZ models...

Let us know what you get 🙂

Actually, here's the thing.

I got it replaced around last week; however, my first purchase of the G750 was two weeks ago. On the receipt, it stated that I can return or exchange any item within 14 days of "original purchase". So, I thought this meant that I can only return/exchange the same item within 14 days from my first purchase of the notebook.

Apparently, this is not so. If I exchange the notebook today, it'll extend the 14 days return/exchange policy. Pretty nice, so I stopped by and the tech was actually very rude. Handled my notebook roughly, literally threw a pen that wasn't working in the air and landed on one of the computers he was building, and just had very bad manners.

He went to go bring the new notebook for replacement, and we opened it together for any problems. Again, he was very rough with the new notebook. But, everything looked good. Before he ringed me out, I asked him if I have the option to return the notebook for full refund. He said I couldn't because the notebook wasn't apparently "defective". Bewildered, I asked him what that was supposed to mean, and he told me that if it gets sent back to Asus, they would immediately send it back to TigerDirect and tell them to sell the notebook without fixing it.

That sucks, but that's not my problem because none of that was mentioned in the receipt and I am only abiding by TigerDirect's policy. Not Asus'.

He brought the store manager over, and he told us it was fine for return. But then, he told the tech to charge me a 15% restocking fee. Now, two weeks ago, I called TigerDirect (not the retail store) and one of the agents has told me that, "if it's a defective product, you will not be assessed a 15% restocking fee. You would only be charged that fee if you were just returning an item because you didn't like it or just for no reason". I told the store manager this, and he told the tech that the restocking fee can be waivered.

So, I am thankful for the store manager for giving me this refund. But, I still have mixed feelings about TigerDirect. If I hadn't stopped him and told him about waivering the restocking fee, $200+ would've came out of my pocket. And, that tech.. just wow lol.

I actually bought a 15' MacBook Pro about two months ago. Think I'll play around with this machine for a bit longer. I only bought the Asus G750 so I can game because my MacBook tends to reach above 95C under load. I'll consider buying a JZ model sometime later this year.

Thanks for all your help guys! Wonderful forums with no bias and drama. See you!

kraver0, thanks for the full story 🙂

I can understand you feel pulled about by the staff, they did work you up a bit, but in the end you were treated well. They have a tough job, and you don't know how that tech's day was going, he might have just had his G750 crash in the middle of a crucial game 😉

Macbooks are the worst at heat dissipation, here are some solutions:
