asus g751j SSD

Hi all, I have a asus g751j, it has a 256gb SSD m.2nvme and a 1TB HDD.

I want to upgrade so that the nvme is a bigger drive, I've purchased one but will not show up in the boot menu or bios, I've used a os media creation stick and installed windows to it so the laptop knows its there but it just will not show in the bios or boot menu. Even with the sata drives it's the same situation. It knows its there but will not show.

Has anyone ever had this problem? The bios is on the latest version for that bios.

Hello,

I can't really see much on your laptop on the ASUS site so it might need to ask a lot of questions.

Currently in the BIOS does it have secure boot enabled or any form of encryption?

Take secure boot off first, save and exit then see what happens.

Your media creation is MS media creation tool?

Don't worry about the drive not showing up, UEFI bios especially older ones required the drive to be initialised with a GPT/UEFI bootloader before the BIOS detects it, so assuming you can boot to the USB installer, windows will do the rest.

Even with secure boot off and CSM enabled still doesn't show and yes MS media creation tool. I can boot the USB installer and Windows installs etc but just will not come up in boot menu for anything. Is there a way to do bootloader manually with GPT/UEFI

Only have the OS drive connected when you do this.

Secure boot disabled + CSM disabled

Install Windows and when it restarts unplug the USB drive.

Does this change anything for you? (maybe you tried already)

Still the same, I've done a fresh install.

So I was trying to see if there were compatibility issues with NVMe drives and your laptop and it appears so, see this thread.

Ive managed to find another route to solve my problem. I was hoping it was going to be easy but it seems this laptop is a pain in the backside 😂 so weirdly no matter what empty drive I put and install windows it will not recognize as a boot drive, however I whipped my sata SSD out my PC and shoved it into the laptop and it recognized straight away and booted. I can see the m.2 nvme drive as a storage drive only so I'll work around that I think and use the new SSD in my PC.

The laptop isn't being used for gaming, I bought it cheap and it had the right specs I need for my vehicle diagnostics. (May be overkill but I do programming quite often and need something decent)

Much appreciated for your help. Thank you for your time.

I think the other issue is that this laptop came out as these drives were coming out so maybe it's because of it being a "newer" drive with higher capacities, etc..

Yes, It can also happen.

You're on the right track! Since the system detects the drive, it’s likely a BIOS setting. Try checking if CSM is enabled or if the drive is formatted as GPT with an EFI partition. Cloning the old drive instead of a fresh install might also help. Keep at it—you’ll get it working! My younger sister had trouble writing a book report for her literature class. I searched online and found Academized. Their write my book report service was fantastic! You can find it https://academized.com/write-my-book-report here. The writer provided a thorough analysis and structured the paper perfectly. She submitted it on time and got a great grade. I’ll definitely use this service again for future assignments!
