Asus G750JZ-T4172H questions

Firstly there is nothing but advertisements for this specific laptop online, hence me having to join up here to ask some questions ...

This particular version of the G750, which I recently purchased, has the 2x 128GB M.2 drives in RAID0 configuration. Though nice and fast, it is greatly lacking in size for an OS drive. My Windows 8.1 C: Drive is 95.3GB in total and already with OS and a few programs installed I have used 49.8GB ...

Today I went about finding information about upgrading the 2x 128GB drives for something larger and thus my nightmare began.

The "standard" or most popular M.2 form factor (sold in most PC stores) is 80mm in length. So going to your local PC store to purchase a larger capacity SSD for this laptop would seem logical, and a straight forward upgrade process. Until you discover ASUS use 60MM M.2 SSD's in this particular model. Why? Don't call and ask ASUS support, they have no idea either ...

My question is simply can I purchase and install a SINGLE 60mm 3.3v M.2 SSD that is 512GB into this laptop? Also can I install two 512GB SSD drives into this hardwired PCB replacing the 2x 128GB drives?

Thank you for your time.

I posted the above 3 days ago - does anybody from ASUS actually provide support on this forum?

can I purchase and install a 60mm M.2 SSD into this laptop?

Surely its not that hard of a question?

toronto699, the new G751 has the new M.2 PCIE format/interface SSD, of which the Samsung XP941 is the best of what is currently available, but we look forward to the new Samsung XP951 and Samsung 850 Pro M.2 PCIE's when they finally arrive.

The G750 series uses the M.2 SATA format/interface SSD - they aren't compatible.

For the G750 M.2 SATA selection the best right now is the Crucial M550 series, but Samsung also has the PM851 series but you don't see it available much.

For some unknown reason Crucial doesn't have any M.2 SATA devices listed on their site, just the 2.5" and mSATA interfaces, but the Crucial M550 M.2 SATA form factor / interface is the best widely available M.2 SATA product.

It is easy to mis-speak / mix-up these M.2 format vs. PCIE / SATA interfaces, and strangely we all still want to say mSATA, but it is very important to get the specific form factor and interface straight as they are not compatible 🙂
