ASUS G750JX DB71 - Extremely Dissapointed

I have had my ASUS G750JX DB71 since October of 2013 and only a few months in keys on my keyboard stopped popping back up. I replaced the first one for $15 myself... then 2 more stopped... now several more have stopped popping up. $15 a key is ridiculous so I don't want to replace one key at a time, I wanted a new keyboard.

I emailed ASUS support and they want me to send the laptop back in- but I can't do that- it's a long story but I am disabled and need this laptop- ASUS might keep it for weeks (or worse.) I repeatedly asked them if I could buy a keyboard and they say no they don't sell parts to customers.

So I found an ASUS authorized service center in New York City and after finding out the specific make/model/serial number they tell me I can't buy just a keyboard, the entire "top" piece needs to be replaced- and I say, fine... But then they say the piece is out of stock on ASUS's website with no ETA when it will be available- so even their local authorized service center can't get this piece. (The Website is private and only they can check it apparently too.)

I very much got the "You're SOL" vibe from the technician basically thinking this will never be available.

He estimated should it come available it was around $300 for the piece.

It's more than I hoped but I'd still pay it.

This was the most expensive laptop I've purchased in my adult life and I was very happy with it initially and made great reviews around the web for it- but now I deeply regret the purchase. 😞

Thank you but I had a back and forth with Asus support before I posted this and was told in no uncertain terms they do not sell this piece to customers. The Asus Authorized Service center had access to a private Asus site which did have it listed but out of stock with no ETA on when they would be back in stock- so my guess is even if they do offer to sell it to me it would be out of stock.

The price wasn't really a concern... $100 or $200 I can manage... another $2000 for a new laptop was out of the question though,

I've already placed the order so there would be no point ordering from somewhere cheaper but I do appreciate the information you provided- hopefully it can help someone else as I know many people are having these keyboard issues.

BirdOPrey5, it's weird, Asus for years has offered parts to consumers, not all of them of course, but there were the basics, about 15 items for the G750 series, and the G series before that.

Unfortunately the shops taking up the slack are price gouging to the tune of 2x+... except for the link I found above, but even that is about 35% higher + shipping.

As long as your in there, replacing the top panel, now would be a good time to replace all your memory with the fastest known to work in the G750/G751 series, at $299 for 4 x 8GB 2133mhz memory, that is the lowest price I have ever seen it - the 1866mhz is only $10 cheaper.

+, I just noticed there is a 10% off through 3/31 for the 2133mhz memory 🙂
+ 10% off w/ promo code GSKILLLTTEN, ends 3/31

Please come back and let us know how it works out 🙂

Wow- that's something I need to think about... Not really doing anything I need that much RAM right now but would be nice to have. Thank you.

BirdOPrey5, they do offer 2 x 8GB kits, still requires removing all other memory, but at less than 1/2 the price, if you don't need more than 16GB...

For me I run a number of VM's at once, and hit over 27GB often, I even turned pagefile back on just to be safe. You never know what you may want to run a year or two from now.

If you think you will ever want more than 16GB, you will want to get the 4x8GB kit to start - it isn't good to mix non-matched SODIMM's - 2 2x8GB kits aren't guaranteed to match.

Good luck with that, it looked like it would be a lot more complicated to remove the keyboard from the whole piece- for me the extra cost of replacing the whole top piece seemed well worth it for not dealing with the extra complication.
