Asus G750JS - Directions on Hard drive bays

Hello,
I am a new member of the ROG family 🙂

I just bought the laptop G750JS, and I already made and image of Win8.1 on USB, formatted the ahrd drive and installed my SSD. What I would like to know , is how to place the HD and the SSD in the bays. I am RAID illiterate, I tell in advance 🙂

Using Easeus to organize the partitions, I notice that the mechanical HD is listed ad "Drive 1" and the booting SSD is as "Drive 2". If I tilts upside down the laptop, and open it, having the RAM slots on my right side, I can see that the SSD in on my left, and HD on my right. It should be the opposite, right? What does actually change if the hd and SSD are swapped? I read on this forum that it is to achieve the max speed, any kind soul would explain this to me? Thank you all 🙂

I saw a video on youtube saying that the boot drive should be the one on your right. So yeah i think you have them in the wrong bays. I am not 100% sure though. I'ld just give it a try if i were you. I have the same laptop btw. Will be getting my ssd soon. 🙂

control panel>device manager>drives, right click a drive for properties and you'll see which bus it is connected to
Alternatively you can use a very common tool called hwinfo to gather a more detailed view of stuff: http://www.hwinfo.com

Here is an overview of my sata bus allocation as presented in hwinfo. as u can see the controller itself is gen 3 6gb/s.
Port #0: Seagate HD 5400 rpm 3 gb/s ( "middle" bay)
Port #4: Crucial SSD 6 gb/s ("side" bay)

The following thread is quite old, but deals with the same question: click

I am also very interested in correct bay order usage, so i came across other old information, that might be helpful: click

Here is the photo of the mentioned spare ssd connector in the motherboard: http://www.imagebam.com/image/23cc99267646645

I hope that this forums advanced users may shed some light to this matter 😉

Fantastic info. Thanks mate!

This helped a lot. I tried to swap the drives, run some tests, and got the same results for the same SSD drive in both bays. was like 470 MB/s in reading. Is it ok?
