Asus G750 compared (pros & cons) to other similar priced gaming laptops

Hi guys!

I'm considering to buy an Asus G750 and I would like to hear your opinion regarding this series.

  • What are the issues or known problems (overheating, bugs, etc.)?
  • Any problems installing Windows 7 on this model?
  • Is Windows 8 faster on it?
  • Are the bundled M.2 SSDs reliable?
  • What's the manufacturer and model of those M.2 SSDs?
  • Could you post the benchmarks (3DMark 11, etc.)?
  • Is there a better gaming laptop costing around US$ 2,300.00? Why?

Thanks in advance.

I have the 3D screen and it has 0 issues with flickering and the colors / clarity is crystal clear.

it's day and night difference between the 3D / Glossy screen and the ugly matte screen which looks as if someone put grease on the screen and has a lot of pixelation when you look closely especially on white backgrounds

I would sell my laptop right away if I ever had a matte screen from ASUS again. That's what I did with my previous G73Sw

My old G73Jh have a glossy screen and it still perfect after almost 4 years of daily operation.
The LCD is a Hannstar HSD173PUW1 btw.
What is the G750JH LCD (manufacturer and model)?
Some system integrators offer the regular matte and the "Anti-Glare Screen"[1], which seems to be another kind of matte. Is it as bad as the regular matte?

I have both the G73 jh (almost 4 years old) and a brand new G750JW

The G73 had a bad glare problem but I got used to it kind of like my 50 inch plamsa TV. The G750 doesnt glare at all and can display HD resolutions. The only thing I am noticing as that the black levels do not seem as good on the G750.

Is it because it have a matte finish instead of a glossy one?

1: Not many, only difficulty in finding a good VGA driver, (Nvidia. But it is pretty much solved as of 334.89)

2: I don't think so, but there's no point once you get used to Win8 and install ClassicShell for the start button.

3: In terms of booting up, absolutely. You cannot compare Windows 7 and 8, like you can with Windows 7 and Vista. Windows 8 is completely different in how it executes and functions over-all.

4: Depends what model you get, some have 2.5mm solid state drives, others have 2x128 mSata chips for RAID.

5: Not sure if it's a solid brand, seems to be what ever they get their hands on, depending where your manufacturer is located. My RAM is made by Hyundai (car). LOL

6: Depending what model you get, I can't answer this, but do note you have a 4700mq i7 Haswell, and a GTX 765m, 770m or 780m. Unless you wait for Maxwell installation.

7: At this point in time, I cannot see one. Note, I got mine for 30% off for a Boxing day sale. It was 2,600 originally So I got mine for $2,000 AUD, which is the same price as a MSI G70-2OC (which has mad heat problems. The Asus has two fans, MSI has one.) but the laptop here over time has reduced down to 2,200. I guess that's because Boxing day they hike prices up, then give them a mad discount, still I saved $200. ;d

Just to note, don't forget that Asus gives you global warranty for 2 years. ( I think ) and that they're not difficult to send your laptop out to, like MSI would be.

You can practically find an ASUS store in any country in the world for your repair needs. For me, they're practically around the corner.

Thank you so much for answering. Your help is very much appreciated! 😉

I'm considering the G750JH-T4053H[1]. I don't know if it's a single 256GB or a double 128GB SSD.
How can I know for sure?

I would like to have the benchmark results of the G750JH (GTX 780M).
