Greetings guys,

I recently experienced a disfunction of my Slimtype BD E DS4E1S.
Indeed when I insert a DVD it doesn"t recognize it!
He perfectly recognizes a CD/BD, but as soon as i put a DVD the green LED shuts off after 5sec.

I bought GW2 three days ago, and i took me about 15min to open & close the Slimtype BD E DS4E1S so it can finally read the DVD and permitt installation.

Now do you guys got any intel on how i can resolve this without having to go through SAV (France)?

I'm open to any comments/help!

PS: I'm French so I apologie for spelling mistakes 🙂

I'll assume you tried a different brand of DVD or multiple DVD's and they all fail.

Check out this thread: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?12506-slimtype-bd-e-ds4e1s-WILL-NOT-READ-ANY-MEDIA. I'd try the UpperFilters/LowerFilters registry edit first - there's a link to it in that thread.

If that fails, I'd try cleaning the laser lenses with some isoptopyl alcohol solution on a Q-tip or using a microfiber cloth.

If that failed, I'd try removing and re-installing the drive to reseat the connection or the more advanced cleaning procedure posted by @black-bean.
G74SX-A1 - stock hardware - BIOS 202 - 2nd Monitor VISIO VF551XVT

Hi, after reading all the forums and fixes nothing worked. Removed drive, cleaned, deleted registry keys and upgraded the firmware.

Found the asus downlaods here: http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=G74Sx&p=3&s=336&os=30&hashedid=LUFmeP8fwFruEdH7

and under Utilities I downloaded and installed:

ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities

KB Filter Driver

and my drive works flawlessly now. Not sure which one you need or if you need both but I hope this helps

Please let me know if it worked for you too.

I have to thank you a lot abwc066 !! I has hopeless because my warranty ended just exactly yesterday... My ODD didn't want to read any kind of disk, i flashed it (with a firmware I already had...) and it didn't worked, I had no more idea to resolve this, asus neither. So I searched for the driver and thanks to you I doawnloaded the right one (i didn't have to install KB Filter driver but I keep it "just in case") and now i'm listening to the first cd that was in my librairy behind me, it's a mediocre album of the Blink 182 😉 but i'm happy !
Thanks to all of you for your help !
Happy holidays

EDIT : fffff*ck !! I spoke to fast ! I tried to read something else, it doesn't work, i tried to do what i wanted still yesterday (burn a cd) and nothing works... :'(( I have to search again and again and again...

are all DVDs not recognize when you put into DVD-rom?

Im having similar problem. I have G74Sx, first the blue ray device worked just fine, then suddenly it didnt read dvd`s anymore and only 1 cd out of 10.
After returning Windows to original state everything worked fine, then asus live update did something and windows update did something and it didnt read dvd`s or cd`s at all anymore.

1. New return of windows didnt fix it anymore.
2. Removing, cleaning and re-installing the device didnt help.
3. Removing and re-installing drivers didnt help.
4. Updating BIOS didnt help.

Just hopeless.

So im guessing that most likely the device is broken somehow... it does read blu ray`s but no dvd`s or cd`s.....

If anyone can help out I`d be most thankfull.

Ive had this problem for ever now. Only BD discs are read. DVDs not read at all - not movies or game DVDs. Uninstalled cineplayer. No effect. Did the upper/lower regedit thing. no effect. unistalled the drive and reinstalled. no effect. updated the drivers. no effect. It cant be a drive malfunction since I actually can play 3D BD movies on it no problem... Does someone have any fix for this that actually works?
