Asus G73SW Completely dead

I have been running into quite a lot of problems recently, to a point where my 5 year old computer was more reliable than the G73. The G73SW had some lockups, where it could not be Ctrl-Alt-Del and needed a force shut down (Holding powerbutton down). Then, the Asus BIOS would not show up and then I had to hold down the power button and keep starting it until it showed up. After the Windows splash, it would become a black screen. Read the dmp file- driver problem for graphics. Tried almost all. Then, it shut down, and refused to go past the BIOS screen, and then automatically shut down. Now, it won't even respond to the power button. It won't respond to the charger, and nothing. Totally dead. Tried the remove all power sources and hold down power button- Nothing. Is there anything I did wrong during the process? Or did I receive a defective unit?

Hehe, It's not good to follow all the G-series 😛 First you're helping one with a issue on the G74 and then jump over to the G73 😛

@Aysoos said he has a gimped gpu.... perhaps I have misunderstood that word "gimped" ?

"Gimped" means the lesser 128 bit bandwith GPU in this case.
G74SX-A1 - stock hardware - BIOS 202 - 2nd Monitor VISIO VF551XVT

Aha, thank you for clearing that up for me 🙂

So then he got the nVidia GTX 460M 🙂 And can try the drivers from the Asus support site to see if there will be any difference

It seems like a problem with the drivers. However, I can't seem to be able to get it to work correctly. After another clean install, it worked for a day. Then when I tried to boot it up, it froze at the Asus boot screen. After spending less than 5 minutes on a game, it froze again. It's annoying me so if it freezes one more time, RMA it is. I was using stock drivers. I'm afraid that the Asus tech people won't be able to replicate it and send it back, as is (Like that time I sent my other notebook in to Asus, and I had to fix- faulty ram), because if it went a day without problems, they probably would say "Its fine" and slap the return to sender sticker.

You have tried the stock drivers ? And you have tried the latest drivers from nVidia ?
What about the latest driver on Asus support page? have you tried that one?

What is the temps of you GPU when you're playing and at idle usage?

Tried the latest on Asus support page. Idle GPU (Stock) = around 50, while the Idle for latest (nvidia) seems to be around 60.

After a day of working, now it just locks up at the welcome screen where the ring stops and then I have to force shut down and boot into safe mode. Argh, this computer is frustrating me so much to the point I regret purchasing it in the first place.
