Hi guys

I came across laptop from tittle but it seems like there is problem with gpu.
At first, laptop would turn on, black screen, fans start 30 seconds prior to turning it on.
Gpu is 5870m 1gb
I tried to "bake it" but didnt help as laptop just shows light on power button for 1 sec and goes off.

Any idea where I could get one of those cards or maybe newer that is not big rip off....

It's a very old machine so not many parts are available for that generation anymore. No new parts, only used. I would watch ebay for a while and make sure to buy a verified working GPU from a reliable seller.

Worth to salvage?

That depends a lot on what you want to do with it and whether you can find a working GPU for cheap. For an older laptop like that I probably would not spend more than $60 USD on a replacement GPU. Once you get it working it will not play the latest 3D games very well but it's good enough to play games on lower settings and everyday desktop applications will run fine.

Do you have the list of gpus that would fit in??

I heard that 6970 would but you have to change cooling bracket at the back of the card.

I don't have a list handy but there used to be some threads on this forum discussing GPU swaps for the g73. I would browse some of those threads to get an idea of what is possible:

The problem may be that, IIRC some of the swaps required a VBIOS flash and I'm not sure if the appropriate images are still available. The links may be dead by now. If you see a card on Ebay I would ensure you can get the right firmware before committing to buy.
