I inquired about how to go about changing all RAM from ASUS tech support and received this reply, which I thought I'd share: it seem we can do the tear-down as long as we're confident we know what we're doing. Any damage we do in the process would void the warranty, but not the actual fact of replacing the RAM if we do no damage. Good to know.

Dear Mr. Weiner,
Thank you for your email,
First of all, if you know how to upgrade the RAM yourself, this can be done without violation of our warranty terms.
Just make sure you do not induce any damage, replacement of RAM is no violation on its own.
If you are not sure on how you can do this, we can be of your assistance.
In this case, you can apply for RMA on our website:
https://eu-rma.asus.com/pick_eu/nl/
When you want this replacement done by us, you need to send the RAM that needs to be fitted in to system along with your notebook.
With such a replacement you will be charged for handling fee, at a maximum of €75,-.
Als u verder nog vragen heeft, dan horen wij dat graag.
If anything is unclear, please let us know.
Met vriendelijke groet/ Kind regards,
Bertrand Juffer,
Asus TSD.
