Asus G50V Integrated Graphics Drivers

Hello,

I have an old G50V with a failed GPU, but everything else works fine. Apparently the GPU is soldered to the motherboard, making repairing it prohibitively expensive, but I've been able to get it to work by removing the GPU driver software and running windows off of the backup integrated graphics on the motherboard. Unfortunately, the default integrated graphics drivers are not very good and only support 800x600 resolution and will not display on an external monitor. The CPU is a Centrino 2. My question is, is it possible to get a set of graphics drivers for the processor, possibly drivers for a laptop with the same processor but no dedicated GPU? Would this work or does the processor not have the capability to do integrated graphics. If it is possible, where would I find the drivers?

It's been a while since I've dealt with the ol' G50V, but I'm not showing it has integrated graphics and guessing you are just running the GPU in a 'crippled' state so that it doesn't exhibit the problems you were seeing before?

If you're interested, you can find more details about the Mobile Intel PM45 chipset used by the G50V at Intel's website which states it does not have integrated graphics.
I don't believe your processor (or any of Intel's current processors?) has integrated graphics included as part of the processor.

I'm curious about the problem with your GPU, how you checked it, and if you see more than 1 display adapter in your device manager, but we can check into this later if necessary.

Also, I show the G50V has a separate vga card although I'm not sure that you would want to spend the money to replace it anyway.

[Problem Description]
About 3 minutes booting up this afternoon while browsing the internet on an external
monitor connected via HDMI, the screen filled with bright green artifacts and the
connection to the external monitor failed, but the desktop did not transfer to the
attached LCD display. When rebooting (in normal mode), the black screen with the
windows logo would come up followed by black then a blue screen with possibly a
different code than is included below (Still code 116 though). The laptop would
automatically reboot after the blue screen (in normal mode unless I changed it in the
boot options screen which I usually let time out), get to the black windows startup
screen and blue screen again with the same code. This repeated until I held down
the power button to shut down the laptop. The code had something to do with the
graphics driver. In the boot options menu safe mode worked fine and didn't have any
problems (I think because it doesn't use the nvidia graphics card driver). After
updating to the latest nvidia graphics driver, the laptop could boot to windows in
normal mode and connect to the external monitor. However, after changing the
screen resolution or using internet explorer for a short time (not always the same
length of time) the screen would get the green artifacts and blue screen as before
with the following error codes.

This also occured if the external monitor was not used it just took slightly longer. One
of the times I rebooted, windows started a disk check and found several errors which
it deleted or repaired, but this did not fix the issue.

The g50v does have a dedicated graphics card (GeForce 9800M GS) and I eventually realized the display worked fine in safe mode which didn't use the NVidia drivers. I got it to display consistently by uninstalling all NVidia drivers and setting windows to not reinstall them (whenever they were installed and used the blue screen issue repeated). I also sent it in to best buy support since I originally bought it from there. They said that the gpu was soldered to the motherboard and replacing it would be approximately $500. I ended up buying a new laptop. But aside from the gpu everything else works fine and it still is a very good laptop for everything except games. However, the backup display driver which isn't listed under display adapters in the device manager can only display at 720p at most with no external monitor support. I was hoping to find new drivers which would not use the gpu. I'm not actually sure if the current drivers are using it and that it still works in a crippled state. I did also try rolling back the NVidia drivers which did not have any effect.
