Asus Backtracker gone?

Darnassus
Status Under Review
Where's the download for Asus Backtracker? Apparently it's been removed from the site? Is this another blunder because I just bought myself a 16GB 3.0 USB specifically for Backtracker and now it's not available? ':f

I also heard there's problems with it with Windows 8.1?

Now I'm even more scared to do a format.. ';f

Darnassus, ...automatic updates most likely!

That's great news Darnassus, glad to hear the parts all work - and now you have a clean HDD backup to save for later, or in case the SSD restore doesn't go as nicely.

Nice job 🙂

I don't understand what you said back there.

I'm still using the same drives, I just did a clean install. Everything's running properly now.. I'm pretty sure it was upgrading from 8 to 8.1 that made the problems.

Also drivers weren't a problem, got a special little tool for that. Even the Subwoofer and Max Audio is present.

P.S. I always turn off auto-update. Just to make sure I know what goes on the machine first.

Darnassus, you have a special little tool for getting/applying updates?

There have been plenty of people, including me, that have upgraded to Windows 8.1 and current Windows 8.1 drivers without problems, without anything other than MIcrosoft for the Windows upgrade/updates, and manually downloading the latest drivers from the various Asus support areas.

Sometimes those upgrade tools go a bit far afield to find updates, and sometimes those drivers it finds aren't quite what is needed. IDK, but you shouldn't have had a problem with Windows 8.1 on a JX.

Now that you have a way to recover back to out of the box Windows 8.0, you could do Microsoft updates to Windows 8.0 till the 8.1 upgrade shows up in the Microsoft Store, upgrade to Windows 8.1, and then continue on with Windows 8.1 updates, then finish up with installing the latest drivers for Windows 8.1.

Microsoft has fixed the August updates it messed up, but there is 1 new update to avoid - KB2894006 - not catastrophic - you get an error about a missing MFC app at start up - but you can avoid it by not do that "optional" update.

Here is the list of places I look for updates for my G750JH; the best way to get a stable fully functioning G750/G751 is to update all the drivers / apps to the latest Windows 8.1 release.

The G750JW/JX/JH/JM/JS/JZ download areas haven't had new updates for a while, BIOS updates still happen in your model's support area, so check there from time to time.

The G750/G751/551/500/etc share the same basic hardware components; check support download areas for new hardware for newer drivers.

Asus maintains central support areas for hardware component features common to all products, those areas usually have the latest drivers after new hardware releases, sometimes there is a lag before the newer drivers show up there, so still to new product releases support downloads for the latest drivers.

Asus G751 Support / Download areas - Asus hasn't updated all the versions of these support areas, this link discusses the 3 locations were started independantly and not sync'd/updated through to the latest driver releases - check them all to be sure.

Asus Backtracker 3.0.7 worked for me, I will confirm. (TESTED)

I installed the 3.0.7 version on my JZ, then I used the SanDisk 16GB Ultra 3.0 USB Flash Drive to setup the Recovery backup image.
I just tested the Asus Backtracker 3.0.7, and everything worked as it should, without a problem.
After the recovery finished, it was like the "first time setup", it worked perfectly without error.

Good luck my fellow ROGer, and have fun!
