Hi,
Good question ShadyStan and if the notebook driver isn't posted on the ASUS download site for your model, it hasn't been approved by ASUS for your notebook model, so you need to decide if it is something you really want to try or find out from others who have tried it how it went.
While we are on the subject, you also normally want to avoid the optional Windows updates if they are for you notebook drivers like audio, video, lan, etc. since they have not been approved by ASUS for your notebook. Stick to the ASUS site for your ASUS approved notebook drivers.
You still want to install the important or security updates for Windows of course that are not related to your notebook drivers.
If it makes anyone feel better, ASUS actually has 'secret' unapproved drivers and ASUS utilities/apps (for newer notebook models only usually) that you can try as well when there is an issue you want to solve before you go to the other sites.
If you want to take a look, check the
ASUS download site and click 'start' to select your model manually insteady of searching by the model name (which is usually easier if you are looking for approved drivers).
A selection windows will appear (not sure if it works with all browsers?) to allow you to select the notebook product, but when you select the series, there are other selections like 'apps' if you want to look for unapproved but updated ASUS software or 'drivers' if you want to check for a newer vga, audio, or touchpad driver, etc.
The only issue is that files are not listed by notebook model, so I usually check for the latest released version for my notebook and look for a slightly higher version under the unapproved drivers.
If anyone finds serious problems with those unapproved drivers, let us know and they may be removed.
I see an unapproved Synaptics touchpad driver Version V16.2.2.0 posted on 11.08.2012 if anyone is interested.
Hope this helps!
