Adding a 2nd Drive to my ASUS G75VX-DS72

Hello Folks,

I plan on purchasing the ASUS Republic of Gamers G75VX-DS72 in about a week, but have a pre-purchase question. My new ROG comes with one HDD installed, which is a 750GB 7200RPM hard drive.. I would like to add a 2nd drive to this unit, specifically a 256GB SSD.. My question is, "Will this unit ship from the factory with the SATA cable for the 2nd drive in place, or will this have to be an after purchase item and if so, where would I buy this cable?" Needless to say, I am surely hoping the SATA cable is already in place, just awaiting a drive to connect to..

Thanks for the assist!!

I believe the SATA cable is in place, since ASUS tends to ship their gaming notebooks with all the extra hardware necessary for a 2nd drive - as was the case with my G53SX. You may need to enable the SATA channel in the BIOS, but that is pretty easy to do: go into the Security tab, and find and enable "2nd HDD".

Yes there's already a cable inside

if you're going to install your SSD check this handful tutorial:

I installed a Samsung 840 Pro SSD, kept the 750 GB hard drive for storage and I can verify that my G75VX-RH71-CA laptop came with the hard drive caddy and the screws to install the second hard drive to the caddy. The screws were separately packed with the paper work and driver discs in the box. The caddy was installed inside the laptop without a drive in it 😉 Enjoy!!

You won't need a cable, simply open the plastic on the back hold by one screw, then unscrew the empty hdd bracket, insert any 2.5" drive (ssd or hdd) and that's it.

I imagine you will be using the SSD as your primary drive (OS boot drive) and the original drive as the secondary in which case you will have to change the drive orientation in the caddy and swap drive bays...

Actually, you should be able to swap the boot order in the BIOS, so that the BIOS tries to boot the second SATA channel first. I did this with my G53SX. Check the boot settings.
