Does anyone us a generic AC adapter as a secondary power source for another room or other reason? Just wondering if there is a safe cheaper alternative.
guvadc, way back when I first bought my Asus G2S I couldn't get an Asus AC adapter - I needed several for different locations so I didn't have to keep plugging in and tearing down every time I move between clients, and Targus was the only company that made a large wattage charger that would work.
Since then Targus has dropped the larger AC adapters from it's line up and the largest one they have now is a 90w, which is about 1/2 the needed wattage for the smaller of the 2 power adapters Asus uses with the ROG laptops - a 180w for the G750 JW/JX/JM/JS and a 230w for the G750JH/JZ - not sure yet what the wattage AC adapter is for the G751JT/JY and G751JM - I am guessing 230w and 180w again.
Here is what Targus has today:
http://targus.com/US/chargersI have not heard of anyone else making larger chargers, but if you go on Ebay you can likely find a Chinese knock-off - but I wouldn't buy one - since Asus makes available both the 180w/230w AC Adapters on it's estore site - you will want to find the one for your region, but here is the link for the estore in US.
I search for G750 and a number of options come up, including both AC adapters. Searching for G751 doesn't work yet.

http://us.estore.asus.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=6517The Targus adapter for the G2S was $30 more than the AC adapter from Asus when it was released - but the Targus did come with a bunch of other parts to connect to other devices - I could also charge my Macbook and phone, and other devices at the same time.
Let us know if you find a good lower price AC adapter, but a good one would be better in the long run than a cheap one
