A question before buying the G55VW

Hi, I'm very close to buy an ASUS G55 laptop. I just have a couple of questions before buying.

Is the network adapter easily changeable?

Does the PC have UEFI BIOS?

Is it compatible with Plextor SSD?

Is it possible to change the drive bay into a second HDD bay?

Does ASUS have any plans to make a high capacity battery in the near future?

I have read an article on this site, were it said that the G series will come with a new intel connection (thunderbolt or something), is it worth waiting for?

Hope this isn't too many questions. 😛 I would really like to buy this computer. BTW, how is the battery capacity when doing stuff like browsing the web or writing in word? 🙂

1. only if disassemblying is easy for you

2. i am currently not sure

3. yes it should be but remember the other hdd bay is hidden and is a msata slot (requires dis assembly voiding warranty)

4. look at #3

5. Chances are they do not. they have yet to do if for the other laptops (although some other guys might try)

6. the thunderbolt port is kinda nice but it really does vary depending on what you would use it for.

7. i know on my g75 i get close to 3 hours on the web.

Thanks for the answer 🙂 I guess that changing the network adapter is possible, or at least i think so after reading the upgrade guide.

The last thing I would like to know is: are you happy with your purchase? It seems to me that there are no other computer offering the same amount of hardware power at that price range. At least here in Norway. Some norwegian computer review sites lists the Alienware 18'' and 17'' as other choices, but they are far more expensive. Seems to me that this PC is good value.

A little low battery life though... But expected on a gaming laptop. Shame ASUS didn't implement Nvidia Optimus technology.

actually, it is possible to change the optical drive bay into a 2nd hd bay by using a CADDY CASE...THE thunderbolt is just a rumored option way before the g75 and g55 were released, turns out they didnt include thunderbolt, not to worry, you have 4 usb 3.0 in the g55..my g55 lasted 3 to 4 hours when web or writing in word( i set brightness to low due to my eyes..and i use a network cable, not wireless adapter)

the g55 is surely the best laptop with highest specs in that price range..alienwares are damn expensive, especially the m18x..thank you 🙂

Thanks guys 🙂 I have just ordered the g55 with 12 gb RAM and hybrid HDD. Though I'm going to replace it with a Plextor M3P SSD.
