a question about drivers for g73jh

FOX

hello, i recently purchased a g73jh asus rog notebook, and I'm wondering what drivers do i need? or do i need to update the drivers at all? is there some way i can tell easily which drivers i have and don't?

im new to this sort of stuff. for instance i am having a problem viewing videos on you tube in full view in Firefox yet if i go to say vimeo everything works fine even in full view, so i got to searching and i kept seeing people say disable hardware acceleration by right clicking on the video viewer. that did work but that's just it videos work fine in ie and other places on Firefox but not you tube all plugins are up to date, i did read if turning of hardware acceleration works then its because of a graphics driver. i did go to amd and download the media codec package to see if that would work but it didn't, there's also this possessed touch pad that i having a problem with it randomly zooms in and out when i TRY to move the mouse, i have ordered a mouse but in the mean time id like to fix this problem for future use.

so any form of guidance who be wonderful. thanks in advance. 🙂

{edit} switched back to chrome videos work just fine in fullview. must be a bug in firefox.

If you launch Device Manager, right-click on a device, and choose "Properties" from the popup menu, the "Driver" tab will display the driver version for that device.

I recommend disabling the "Zoom In" and "Zoom Out" gestures on your touchpad if a driver update fails to resolve your issue.

thanks for the response, but before i update drivers, should i make a system restore point? and do i need to install one driver at a time? how does all this work. i would like to do this in a proper fashion and not have any hassles to deal with.

and i did fix the zoom problem by disabling them.

A system restore point isn't a bad idea just in case something goes wrong but it's unlikely that you'd have a problem that couldn't easily be fixed anyway.

You can install more than one at a time and I often do but I suppose the "prescribed" method would be one at a time.
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station…

ok i will do that, but whats the best way to know if i need the driver? when i go to asus driver website there is 92 different ones, granted i doubt i will need all of them.would it be easier to go through the device manager and update the driver that way. and most of the drivers that show up are not listed in the device manager. is there no automated way to update to know exactly which ones you need or already have? and about the bios if i decide to up date from the one i have 211 to the newer one 213 do i have to update all the drivers again?

I typically make a Restore Point before I update any drivers. It allows you to quickly and cleanly undo the installation if there are any problems. I believe a lot of the problems people experience with drivers, particularly video drivers, involve remnants of previous versions that are not properly uninstalled.

I also boot into Windows Safe Mode prior to installation to disable any running drivers (such as Antivirus) that may interfere with the installation. I install drivers one at a time and reboot after each installation.

When updating drivers, I usually uninstall the current version from Control Panel (if possible) and reboot into Safe Mode to install the new version.

There's only about 10 drivers you need to concern yourself with:

Chipset

USB 3.0

ATK Package

Video

Audio

Ethernet

WLAN

Bluetooth

Touchpad

Card Reader

The 92 'drivers' you see on the ASUS website include ASUS Bloatware apps, manuals, drivers for devices on other G73 models, multiple versions of the same driver, and BIOS updates. You're better off browsing through Device Manager to determine exactly which drivers you need. .

The Drivers and Applications disk included with your laptop can be used to automatically install all the outdated ASUS drivers that shipped with your system OR you can visit the device manufacturer's website to obtain the latest driver versions. The drivers on the ASUS website are in most cases as old as those on the Drivers disk.

The video driver will be the one you update most often to get better performance in the latest games. The driver release notes will tell you if it is of interest. You may occasionally update one of the other drivers to resolve a problem, gain new features, or better performance.

The BIOS updates are independent of the Windows device drivers. You do not need to re-install them after a BIOS update.

alright, Bluetooth, USB and card reader dont have a place in the device manager should i still download them? will it notify me if i already have that version of driver?

most of the items you listed seem up to date at least in terms of what asus provided.

atk package not sure what that is.

video i suppose is up to date, i guessing you are referring to ati mobility radeon. in which case amd didnt really provide anything besides, driver verification tool and the codec pack that i already installed amd hydra vision.

and atheros doesnt have a website.
