A Message to ASUS about Unnecessary Hardware in their Gaming Laptops. Please Input

(1) Blu-ray Drive .... we can always put an external one.. I personally just download my stuff, and windows _ I just usb Iso.
(2) Card Reader... who the heck needs one of these? They have micro SD now, and anyways your camera can just connect to your computer.
(3) DVI Port...while yes it can be useful.. I have never, ever used one of these to connect a monitor.. always used a HDMI, and anyways if you really, really wanted to, you could get an adapter from HDMI to DVI
(4) Ram that is easily accessably, i.e., not under the keyboard... all though I understand cheap ram is just as good as expensive ram, other people do not.
(5) Do something with the battery. For me, I usually plug in my laptop for gaming, and when I am not gaming the battery lasts for hours... SO why the hell are people using a battery for gaming (make this a point when advertising.. I would not buy a laptop for exceptional gaming hours on battery). I am sure every gamer knows to plug in their laptop.. I mean really, where are you playing your games without a power point?
(6) Various adjustable keyboard colours.. Here you will win people over who have depression, and well, yeh it makes your laptop a little more interesting.
(7) Having the best GPU is not everything, and we understand the cost involved.. but perhaps you could work something out with a detachable gpu that is running around in the market instead on a soldered on board one.

I don't see the point in moaning about bits that you have on your laptop but never use. Yes, I've not used my Blu-Ray drive either and am unlikely to do so, so I think I'll put an SSD in there at some point - but it's nice to have a Blu-Ray drive if I need it. The same goes for the various ports and memory card slot, Asus has included them to make the G751 an extremely versatile machine. Just ask owners of the new MacBooks who have to use an expensive port replicator to get more ports. I'd much rather have too many rather than too few.

Accessible RAM is a luxury which barely any laptop manufacturers do consistently - and it's not difficult to disassemble laptops to get beneath the keyboard anyway so, again, it's not worth moaning about.

Perhaps you should've bought an MSI if you wanted a multi-coloured backit keyboard? I personally love the red backlight and think that it is much classier than other laptops with the multi-colour nonsense.

If I were to have a gripe about ONE thing with the G751, it's just that the sound could be better. That's it. I'm happy with it otherwise.

You don't seem to be getting it. That's an entirely different machine. You can't put a more powerful GPU in that.
The G751 is built around the 980M, it was designed to work with that GPU at full capacity - these machines you're pointing us at were not.

I would appreciate it if you would stop throwing insults aroung calling people tools etc., I am being realistic, you're being unreasonable.
Are you trying to victimize yourself? What does it matter if you got your notebook second hand? Why didn't you get a second hand MSI, then?

There's a balance between these machines and what they bring to the table. I prefer the feel of the ASUS keyboards and am willing to trade color customizability, which is a gimmick to me, anyways. Same as complaining about a desktop replacement computer having an optical drive...

If you want light and thin, get another notebook - many companies offer thin "gaming" laptops. These big ones are not meant to be carried to school, they're meant to be able to replace a desktop computer anywhere - and in class you don't need that much horsepower.

These people you're trying to send a message to I'm certain are fully aware of the pros and cons. You think ASUS are gonna die as a company because they haven't come out with a super thin "gaming" notebook that isn't really a gaming notebook but a fairly regular one with a fancy keyboard and logo and a fairly average GPU? Like I said, if you want powerful hardware, you go big, for now. If you want medium-range viable gaming, you can take any number of other companies' offerings, MSI or anyone else.

It's true, the space could be better used, more cooling etc. but there are other considerations to your singular interest in what hardware is needed/not needed. They're following trends as a company and I guess we'll have to put up with our desktop replacement bricks of laptops having hardware that might actually be needed in a home PC environment. But what you're suggesting is that they're completely ignoring the ideas you're pointing to. Have you seen the other notebooks ASUS makes? There are some really thin ones that come with gpu's like 960 etc., why not get one of those - and they're not even ROG branded, so I guess those don't count because maybe they can't play the same games, or what? All companies have their offerings. Maybe the next ASUS notebook will be an uber-thin machine with a next-gen top-of-the-line GPU...or maybe Gigabyte will make it. Who knows?

We work with what we have. I'm curious, though, why did you decide to get a second hand machine that you're so disappointed having said hardware, though? You say you love it, and you ask for input, but you refuse to accept other people's viewpoints. To me, the fact of the matter remains that if you want good cooling, you need a big chassis. Yeah, optical media is getting a bit pointless, but it has it's uses regardless. I think 1 in 3 people who own any of the G751 series use the optical drive. I guess they simply decided that using a drive was a balance between use cases and space utilization.

I dare remind you that MSI also has big hulking gaming notebooks that are just as big, have optical drives and a worse job of cooling their hardware. The same ones have worse screens, arguably better looks and light-up keyboards, the feedback of which I personally do not like. Pros and cons...

I use my card reader quite extensively. I have a side business with professional photography. There is more to life and laptops than gaming! Mine did not come with a bluray player and I actually bought one to upgrade it so the no one uses a bluray is out the window. Not everyone is going to pack around a game console either just to watch bluray and I could care less what game console you have, they are banned in my household and for a good reason. Just read some of the responses here. They cause brain damage! I like the optical drive on the left, Im tired of them being on the right. Whoever posted they should not be on the left should be hanged. I also use the DB15 VGA port to connect to projectors for not only presentations but also to play movies. Not one single kid at the campground where I put up a sheet for a large screen and project movies onto it complains about the DB15 port, NONE.

molokow, I hate to call you out but you seem to have the mentality of a 10 Y0 whose parents just throw money at instead of spending quality time with them. You started this thread and are perpetuating idiocy. If you want an MSI, then go buy an MSI. Who are you to say who is setting the trend? If any of those who think the ASUS ROG laptops are not well designed and a waste etc, please put up or shut up. Design and market your own machine.

I was being sarcastic to the post about how whoever decided to place them on the left should be hanged. Sitting here looking at 3 laptops and they are all on the left. My old G74SX, my company issued HP and the new G751. Honestly Id have issues with it being on the right as a righty and habitual mouse user. Never did like track pads.

Just because *you* (and your friends?) don't use a feature doesn't mean it's unnecessary for everyone else.

Card reader - I use it several times a week. Most professional photo/video/audio gear uses these cards and doubt they will change anytime soon. MicroSD may be good for small devices, but is too delicate for this kind of work. Accessories and more cables would make it clumsy.

VGA port - I've used it several times. A lot of projectors still use this format. Life saver.

RAM - It's not that difficult and how often do you change RAM?

Battery - I have no idea what your argument is. I wish it could last longer in non-gaming work so I don't need to carry a heavy charger.

Keyboard colours - be nice to play with and end up forgotten and unused. Who stares at their keyboard anyway?

Blu-ray Drive - The only thing I might can agree with - but know people still have/use them as evidenced here.

I bought the G751 because it has good cooling with a high end CPU/GPU and the best 17" IPS display. Everything else was a bonus. It's also why I chose it over the MSI competitor. Although I do game, i need it to do some real work. I'm happy with the choice.

Seriously, who the **** wants cables and **** to be next to their mouse, especially when the room might not be available to put your mouse farther away sometimes (Because the laptop is huge). Put an Oculus rift in, add the camera too and you got yourself a cable mess where your mouse should be. Stop acting that your opinion beats the majority, for what i know you are in the minority with that opinion, as 5 friends of mine have RoG's as well and we all agree that having the DVD player on the left is CRAP.

I don't really mind it much, if I have to open up the optical bay then I'm probably not using the mouse or anything. That being said, I do seem to currently prefer it on the left as my mouse is connected to the ports, which are above the optical bay. My headset is on the right per the ports but nothing really gets in the way of me using my mouse - I can just pop open the bay freely (my wrist sometimes does touch the audio jacks, yeah). But yes, the cables do sometimes get in the way. Then again, they could have had them at the front, too, which wouldn't have affected the drive bay's location anyways.

Also the button is on the low side (that you usually grab the laptop from) and sometimes the ODD opens (when trying to move the laptop for a presentation for example)
