512gb SSD help + Should I upgrade to Win8 Pro

Apologies for copy pasting this into a new thread but haven't got a response in the other thread so possibly people might not be clicking on it and I'd like advice before Thursday as I fly back to Australia from visiting my family in Ireland then..

I'm looking for a 512gb SSD for my G75vw. Money isn't an issue. I'm basically looking for the best and most suitable SSD for the G75.

I've come across this is this good value for money? Bare in mind it's Australian currency, although very little difference in conversion rate. I'd pick it up myself as I live just around the corner from the store so no delivery charge necessary.

Any thoughts? Is this a Desktop only SSD or can it fit in the slots in the G75vw? I know it needs to be 2.5" just notsure if it needs to be a specific design. Any better options?

My laptop is 6 months old but below is my spec incase anyone wants to know..

Model: G75vw T1120V
OS: Win7 Ultimate
Ram: 24gb (16gb Kingston, 8gb Hyundai) warranty unvoided
CPU: Intel i7-3610QM @ 2.3ghz (8 CPU's), 2.3ghz (non-overclocking)
GPU: Geforce GTX 670m - 3gb
Storage: 1.5TB HDD (x2 750gb)

Also any thoughts on upgrading from Win7 ultimate to Win8 Pro in the process? Don't think I'd want the hassle of doing it myself so would probably see if the store would do it for me. I'll still be asking the store to install Win7 Ultimate regardless.

Cheers and apologies for making a new thread! Plus I did search and couldnt find an answer!

OCZ Vector. I got a few in RAID 0 in my desktop and they are pretty nice. Faster then the samsung 840 pros.

I was actually going to point that out to him as well, but then I realized his original link is in Australia...

$75.00 less and still get far cry 3 for free.

I'm guessing at the fact you're linking Newegg's version of it that it's definitely compatible with the G75vw? Yeh as bignazpwns said I'll be in Australia and just around the corner from the shop I linked so is alot more convenient for me next week. Thanks though.

Also, makes sense to just get a fresh install of win7 ultimate or should I get win8 Pro? Is it working good with the G75's? Bare in mind I do not want to do it myself as I may not have the time so in terms of difficulty to install that should be a none issue if the store techs can do it for me.

Id actually disagree and tell you to stick with the Samsung Pro. Yes, the OCZ is barely faster (10mb up/down) but you can see based off of reviews (both Amazon and Newegg) the constant RMA of the OCZ. I would assume that the user would be storing large amounts of data on this hard drive including the OS. I rather pay the extra $30 and have a reliable Samsung Pro drive in comparison to the OCZ.

Back on topic.
If you are using the SSD for just faster browsing, go to Windows 8. Yes its a new UI, but work arounds have already been created by end users to circumvent the lack of start/task bar at the bottom. If you are using it for certain programs that are not yet Win 8 compatible, I would suggest just sticking with Win 7.
Overall if you can upgrade, do it. Tests have proven that Win8 performance is significantly improved in comparison to Win 7 when adding a SSD (overclockers.net article).

He linked neweggs version because it is the same exact SSD for $75.00 less. He probably didn't realize you were in Australia. As far as installing it, if I can install a mSATA ssd in my G55, you should be able to install that into your G75 :P. All you do is take the bottom cover off of your laptop and I am sure you can figure it out from there. I am sure you can find a video on the net as well. As far as which OS to use, that is based on your own preference. The only reason I have Windows 8 myself is because it came pre-loaded on my laptop. If you decide to do it yourself, let us know. If you plan on a clean install, there is no real reason to pay to have that thing installed. It is all up to you in the end though...

Yeh I understand but I said I'd be going back to Australia thursday in the OP! However I'm not one to disregard advice on shopping around its appreciative.

Yeh it's not so much fitting the SSD in itself, i've read back on other threads about difficulties with installing an SSD when there's already an HDD as the OS. I just don't need that headache at the moment due to other matters but this is the ideal time to get the SSD installed. I'd like to learn as much as possible at some point. I'll decide when I get back and go from there. They might try charge a fortune so we'll see.

There's not much to benefit from upgrading Win7 Ultimate to Win8 Pro though right? I've used Win8 once and thought it was so so but thats because I like Win7 but I'm sure I could adjust to Win8 in due time..

i think win 7 and win 8 is difference between use behavior, but i thin if you have touch screen is more helpful to use win 8 and more utilities or driver are not compatibility, i think win 7 is good choose.

I don't have touch screen so I'll probably stick with what I know and do a fresh install of win7 ultimate. Cheers.

@geo355, to be honest, in terms of performance ssd, there is no significant difference in common usage if you compared those with the same league (i have samsung 840 pro and ocz vertex 4. for common usage, they are of similar performance to me).

as of this writing, vector and samsung 840 pro are good consumer ssds. these ssds fit nicely into g75.

as for w7 ultimate vs w8 pro, it's a personal preference. for my usage, both are the same (once you're used to w8, you will realize it's not that bad without the start button, actually)
