2230 2TB SSD for upgrading storage on the ROG Flow Z13 (2025)

Hello! I just purchased my new ROG Flow Z13 and wanted to upgrade the stock SSD.

I already own a 2230 2TB SSD which was previously installed on a ROG Ally. I don't plan to use the Ally anymore and I removed the 2TB SSD from it.

Is it recommended that I boot up first with the stock SSD before installing the 2TB one? Do I need to format the previously used 2230 SSD before even installing it on the Flow Z13?

Any help is appreciated 🙂

Thank you!

Hi there.

  1. Just format your 2230 with SSD enclosure
  2. If you're using WD Black, with using enclosure, upgrade the firmware first to the latest version via Sandisk Dashboard (you can download it)
  3. Make sure you can access bitlocker encryption key (just in case you have to put it down after installing new 2230)
  4. Copy your entire (existing) disk of Z13 to the new 2230 with enclosure
  5. Replace the SSD with the new one
  6. Put the bitlocker decryption key (just if asked. if its not, all good to go)
  7. All set

You can disable bitlocker and clone your installed SSD to the SSD you want to put in with a USB enclosure. Lots of software to do this online. then swap them. Get Sandisk Dashboard (or what ever is relevant to your 2tb SSD) update firmware and you should be good. Reenable bitlocker if you want.
