Someone private messaged me but was using a guest account (forgot to sign in?) about what reference meant. Reference means the stock design by nvidia. so the link below shows "stock" or "reference" design specs.
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-980-ti/product-imagesa card with the same dimensions should fit fine too. (as long as it's not longer and/or taller)
So only cards that fit within the reference size of 10.5" L x 4.376" H will work. also the PSU draw does work initially so you can get into windows, but i found the card acted funny in the 3D Mark Fireworks test (crashed) and some apps didn't launch properly, until i installed MSi Afterburner and put the 90% power limit on (it doesn't reach it often, so everything is controlled) I saved the profile and keep it active at all times.
It's been stable and acting normal ever since.
Both PSUs required btw (180w & 230w)…*if you don't want to use the MSI program grab the DELL Y90RR 330W and replace the 230W (one person tested it on a 970 system, i haven't tried it out yet. i may end up doing it later and testing. (no rush on my end) still running the 230 & 180
