ROG G20CI GPU Temperature > 85 Degrees !!!

Hi all 🙂

Just bought a ROG G20CI with the following specs:

• Intel Core i7 7th Gen 7700 (3.6 GHz)
• 16 GB DDR4
• 256GB SSD, 2 TB HDD
• Windows 10 Home 64-Bit
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB GDDR5

Noticed when i play games like XCOM2, DOOM or Fallout 4 on this gaming desktop, the GPU signals a 80-88 degrees Celsius temperature even when i have already set the fans to 90-100% maximum. I have not even set it on the highest ULTRA settings but only on the HIGH settings and I usually game at 1080p in an air-conditioned room.

I checked the reference temperature of the GTX 1070 online and it states the correct temperature, even under FULL load, should only be 60-65 degrees Celsius...

Have anyone experienced the same before with the same desktop as mine ? Are these 80-88 degrees Celsius temperatures normal since the case is only 9.5 litres ?

I sent my desktop to ASUS Singapore support and the tech guy said these GPU temperatures are normal but I hardly doubt so !

Appreciate some advice and help here ! 😮

Your system easily meets/exceeds the recommended system requirements for these games.

ROG G20CI: Win10x64, i7-7700, 16GB, 8GB GTX1070
XCOM2: Win7x64, 3GHz quad-core, 8GB, 2GB GTX770
DOOM: Win10x64, i7-3770, 8GB, 4GB GTX970
Fallout 4: Win10x64, 3.6GHz, 8GB, 3GB GTX780

Maximum GPU temperature is 94C for reference GTX1070.
Your GTX1070 shouldn't exceed about 75C under moderate load. Your 1080p games are a light/moderate load, I agree it should run about 65C or less. Where did you check the reference temperature online?

I played some Fallout 4, at highest "ultra/extreme" quality 2560x1440 - in a very warm room, lol - with one 4GB GTX980 card that peaked at 79C-83C.

Your 80C-88C GPU temps at 1080p gaming (regardless of quality settings) are NOT "normal". Especially in a cooled ambient.

Maybe weak PSU? Bad thermal paste? Run GPU-Z to determine if you got stuck with lousy Micron GDDR5?
Update to latest game patches, hardware drivers, and DirectX, as always, lol. Update to latest BIOS, too, if needed.

One of my reference here. FULL load temperature indicated as 76+ degrees Celsius. But some reddit GTX 1070 users replies here state otherwise..

However as you stated, my 80+ degrees is certainly not fine. I have updated all drivers and DirectX..short of re-flashing the bios. The bios is already at the latest version, I may just re-flash it again to try my luck.

i wonder if there are other users with the same configuration or using the same ROG with GTX 1070 who experience the same 80+ degrees Celsius like me ??

I certainly hope Asus can provide the individual fan speed control in their Aegis software instead of just controlling by percentages.
