ROG G20 Overhaul

So I just got a G20 and I decided to replace the stock 760 with a 980, add an SSD and upgrade the HDD. The GPU was tricky but I managed however, 43904it looks like adding the SSD and replacing the HDD is near impossible. And tips?

Also I just realized when I took the pic that the GPUs power supply supports up to 230 watts so as long as the GPUs max power draw does not exceed PSUs rating and it fits in its slot, your golden. Here is a pic of the GPU slot. 43919

Which GPU is this specifically? Please let me know!!!! Looking to upgrade my g20 soon. Thank you 🙂

This just made my day! Which 980 did you put in it? There are many different variants to choose from.
My g20 only came with a single power brick so I need to try to find where to get the second one/double brick unit.
Did you need any other cables other than whats in the unit itself or that came with the card?
Finally did everything function when you put it back together?
Asus dont want us to upgrade with their hardware hence the repeated same answers of warranty being void etc. which is fair enough but I'm determined to upgrade my g20 🙂

It does not void your whole warranty if you open the computer it only voids the part you upgraded.
For instance if you upgrade the graphic card (gpu) and the mother board dies later on and you still in the warranty period they will
replace the whole computer or the motherboard. but you would have to send the whole computer in ether way. make sure u keep all
the stock part because you would have to put them back in order for them to fix the problem.... unless u want to give away your
upgraded parts. I called asus and this is what they told me...
call for your self to see if they say the same thing !

Btw i plan on upgrading my g20s
cpu to i7 4790
gpu to Evga 980
plane on making video

As far as the cables go there was a 8/6 pin in the chassis and in the box there was another 6 pin, so at the most the G20 supports one 8 pin and one 6 pin or two 6 pin connectors for the GPU

Progress so far...43914
Heck well if I'm this far in I might as well add some RAM lol
So I was looking at removing the back panels of the chassis at first to provide easy acess to where the SSD should go but after tinkering around with it I decided to just go the long way and remove the DVD drive and CPU heat sink. It doesn't look like anyone else has done option A and I didn't want to risk damaging the cases precious looking plastic.

This is great info for me! I'll start looking for somewhere that will sell me that PSU, the gpu slot pics won't work for some reason?
Do you think the 980 will be able to cool ok with the tight space in the g20 chassis?

That black plastic brace in the back of the GPU can be slid back to accommodate something larger.

As far as temps go the case had no problem keeping the 760 Cool even after a mean OC so a stock 980 should have no problem with temps. However, I wouldn't OC 980.

yeap the gtx 980 is cool, and I have loads of videos on how to replace all items in the Asus rog g20AJ on my you tube channel
