Replacing the CPU cooler mounting bracket in a Strix G16CHR desktop

Hello all

Can anyone advise if the motherboard needs to be removed from  the case to allow for the exiting CPU cooler to be swapped over?  I am looking to fit a Noctua unit in mine and am hoping it can be done while still in the case rather than having to take the whole thing apart!

Thanks

Just to close this thread off, I am pleased to confirm I upgraded to a Noctua NH-U9S without issue.

At first I though the original mounting bracket was fixed and wouldn't come off, but a quick web search revealed it was just held on with a lot of strong double sided tape, so after some loosening with pry tools it came off easily enough.

The new Noctua CPU cooler uses a larger 92mm fan than the stock 80mm and it has made a massive difference.  The CPU now idles at 40C, which is a good 20-25C lower than it was.

I will probably add a "pull" fan on the other side of the cooler as well, as why not? 🙂

Super impressed and pleased with how it went 😁

I think, judging by this image from another post on this forum, the answer is yes it can be swapped out while still fitted in the case.

Hello coldchisel

Good observation.

With that cutout, you shouldn't have to remove the motherboard from the case to install your new cooler.

Check height clearance with the side cover, you can use a tape measure to measure from the cpu socket.
