I'm both new to forums and this machine, although I've been learning fast.
I purchased this machine for my son and he jacked it up. He was trying to do a restore (attempting to fend off some malware he thought he had contracted) anyway, in the middle the cord was snatched out of the wall, dog and now the machine only boots to the Asus logo with options to bios message, it will continue to boot to that page in a continuous loop.
There was never a backup made nor restore point.
I went into DOS and ran bootrec/fixmbr (successful), bootrec/fixboot (successful), and bootrec?rebuildbcd and it tells me there is no windows installation.
Asus tells me to send them the machine (its no longer under warranty)
In the bios, I think I'm seeing windows still on the hard drive
Is there a windows product key that should have come with the machine? Can I get to it from the bios? if so how?
The machine says it's missing a required partition.
Please help me get this thing running without having to send it to Asus and not know what it might cost.
