【Fun Fact】My Phone is Too Hot! What Should I Do!?

If you find your smartphone feels unusually hot to the touch, what should you do?

Here's my conclusion: Turn it off and let it cool down.

After shutting it down, remove the phone case if you have one. You can either use a fan to blow on it or place it near an air conditioner vent.

In short, if you feel that your phone is too hot, turning it off, removing the protective case, and cooling it down are definitely the right steps to take.

Why Does My Phone Feel Hot?

The reasons can be complex. It might be due to a software bug, the phone being under high load, or even direct sunlight. There are many factors that could cause your phone to heat up, so it's important to remove it from that state as soon as you notice.

Closing all background apps and even turning off the Wi-Fi can reduce the load on your phone and help it cool. But trust me, turning off the phone and removing the case is simpler and more effective than closing apps or turning off wireless transmissions.

↪︎From my own experience, downloading a lot of updates and keeping the screen on can indeed make a phone heat up. This might be one of the few situations where you can’t just turn it off—a fan really helps a lot.

Can I Put My Phone in the Fridge?

While placing it in the fridge might seem like a good cooling method, I personally think it’s unnecessary.

Just letting it cool with natural air after turning it off is enough; there’s no need to force it into an extremely cold environment.

Some people worry that putting it in the fridge might damage it, but I don't think it’s that serious. Current phones are not that fragile. If putting your phone in the fridge for a while could damage it, then theoretically, traveling to a snowy area with drastic indoor and outdoor temperature differences should destroy all your electronics, but that doesn’t happen.

Additionally, the fridge is a humid environment, which isn’t great for your phone. Unless you're someone who stores everything in airtight containers, the moisture from food and drinks could increase the humidity in the confined space of the fridge.

Having an Extra Fan is Beneficial

Since the first ROG Phone was launched, an external fan has been a continued accessory offering.

For those who like to build and modify their own computers, seeing this accessory might feel particularly familiar.

Some may question how much it helps, but I believe that introducing active air cooling has a real positive effect on high-performance devices.

Why I Think Active Air Cooling is an Excellent Solution?

Today's smartphones are extremely compact, with all components packed very close to the body, sometimes even with added thermal material to allow heat-producing components to directly contact the back panel.

Essentially, you can think of the phone's outer shell as a computer CPU’s heatsink, just without a fan most of the time—it’s passively cooling. If you attach a fan at the back, it turns into an active cooling system.

Attaching a fan to the phone's shell is as simple as sticking another fan on the heatsink of your computer's motherboard. Adding a fan where it feels hottest definitely makes sense.

The fact that you can feel heat on the phone means that the internal components are effectively transferring heat to the body. Blowing air on it to remove the heat from the shell allows the phone to continue transferring internal heat out, which is beneficial for cooling.

According to the official website, the internal components of the ROG Phone are designed with heat conduction and dissipation in mind. The CPU is also strategically placed right opposite the fan, which is an excellent layout for cooling.
