As a new ROG Ally user coming from two years of experience with the Steam Deck, I’d like to request the addition of APU undervolting as an option—either in the BIOS or within Armory Crate.
Undervolting has proven benefits, including reduced temperatures, improved battery life, and quieter operation. On the Steam Deck, users can undervolt the CPU/GPU/SOC by up to -50mV. This typically results in 1.5W to 2W less power consumption, higher sustained frequencies, and approximately 200 RPM lower fan speeds due to improved thermal efficiency.
Given that the ROG Ally features a more powerful APU and a dual-fan design, the potential gains from undervolting could be even more substantial. Adding this feature would provide users with greater control over performance and thermals, enhancing the overall experience.
