New Armoury Crate update breaks XG Mobile connectivity

Strange behavor where one of the following happens when I connect the XG mobile to the Ally since the new AC update:

  • try to connect to XG mobile after plugging it in and then it disconnects immediately.  you see the output from hdmi momentarily then go back to the rog ally.  then the "disconnect from xg mobile" stays up forever.  I have to power off / reboot the device to get rid of this.
  • connect to the XG mobile but the window never goes away where it has a progress bar but the output is now through hdmi.   I minimize the progress bar and try to load a game but it never loads.  The only way to load a game is through an external shortcut or file explorer.  AC is hosed.

Note that the prompt where it asks you to stop the following processes.. never comes up.

There are many threads about this on reddit since the update.  See this one for example:  https://www.reddit.com/r/ROGAlly/comments/14s5jd4/xg_mobile_6850m_xt_ally_updates_breaking/

Pleae advise.  I spoke to support and they don't know how to downgrade Armoury Crate.  I tried to reinstall AC and the issue still occurs.

I have the same issue, can anyone fix this?

The only method that seemed to work for me so far was to close out the AC app on the Ally, Disconnect, then reconnect the power to the XG Mobile. Then plug into the Ally. You will get an AC notification that the XG Mobile is connected and the prompt to Activate as you normally would, but the application itself is closed. It should load up to your external screen and be good to go.
One problem I ran into is that once you open the AC app after the connection is established, the icon to disconnect the XG Mobile didn't respond when trying to select it. I had to reboot the Ally while still connected to the XG Mobile, then when AC loads at startup I was able to select the icon to disconnect the XG Mobile. Kind of a pain, but this worked for me testing it a couple times. Hopefully Asus fixes this soon.

I gave up already on workarounds or waiting for update from ASUS.  I uninstalled AC and installed Handheld Companion, G-Helper and Playnite instead to replace the functionality.  XG Mobile works fine now.

I finally ended up doing the same. No more XG Mobile issues.

yes.  having the same exact problem.  this issue just dropped a bomb on my weekend

I'm wondering if the issues also apply to the SD card, until today, it was being read just fine.    Everything is still on my SD card, I put it in my Samsung Galaxy Book Ultra, and everything was detected fine, so it's not fried.    However, it slowed my system to a snail, couldn't reboot the device with the SD card in.   Something got borked with a Windows update for sure.

looks like the best solution now is to uninstall AC?

probably.  i haven’t bothered with that option.  i’m a man of principle and i think they should just fix their product
