It's no secret that the Ally is one of, if not the most powerful gaming handheld out there, the hardware is phenomenal. On top of that, it running Windows enables it to run pretty much everything. Unfortunately, Windows is both a blessing and a curse, with the curse being that Windows 11 is not quite suitable for handhelds in two key departments.
The first is the Windows UI. Even in tablet mode, using Windows is not a great experience. Armoury Crate SE and Steam Big Picture Mode definitely help, but it would be great if Windows had native mode specifically for gaming handhelds like the Ally, where you can also navigate the entire UI with the controller. There was a hackathon run by Microsoft employees that showed a concept of what it could be like, but I think if Microsoft saw that there was real interest in a handheld mode, it would encourage them to actually make one.
The second area is that Windows could improve on is sleep states. The way Windows sleeps and wakes currently is inconsistent. Say for example you are running a game and press the power button to put the device to sleep, like you would on a Nintendo Switch for example. When you press the power button again to wake it, you might be able to resume exactly where you left of if you're lucky, or you'll crash the game, or you will be met with a BSOD, or you'll find that the device has run out of battery. Sleep/Wake is just not consistent.
If you want to let Microsoft know that you want these issues to be addressed, the best way is to vote for it in the Windows Feedback Hub. Below are the links.
