Halo Freezing up (Performance Question)

Hello,

I am new to PC gaming so bear with me. I just got the Ally and installed Halo Master Chief collection. Started playing Halo 1 and it plays well for the first 10-15 minutes then it gets jittery and then freezes completely and crashes. I have done all the updates, windows, drivers, Armory Crate, and BIOS. I adjusted the power settings to max (Plugged in) and graphics down. I also allocated 8GB of VRAM, and the game is running off the hard drive. When I did that the game loads allot faster and played better but after 20 minutes or so froze again. I read that this can play new console level games so I figured this would be fine. Am I expecting to much from this machine or am I missing something?

Thanks All

Thank you. "Corrosivedeath" locked the FPS to 60 with the limiter. Played over an hour running smoothly. Thanks!

Just tried to play myself and the same issues, its unplayable for me. Dont understand how I can play the heck out of diablo 4 but this wont run lol

I hear others playing large resource games with no issues. I wonder if it has something to do with it being part of a very large downloaded game with several games included. The games appear to all run as one and not separate games? But just a guess I'm no expert. Mine is playable but for only about 10-15 minutes. Then it crashes.

I fixed my issue, turn off 120Hz and run it @ 60Hz. It runs @ a locked 60fps no lag at all.

I have been at 60Hz still freezing and crashing. Glad yours is working.

Wait? You mentioned locked? Did you turn on the FPS limiter to 60? Is that what you mean by locked?

I found that if you push the top left white button with the double squares, it toggles the high def graphics on and off.  When turned off, I did not have issues with the game freezing

I also just saw that Steam released an update on July 12th, one of the things they fixed:

"Resolved a memory leak in Halo: Combat Evolved Campaign missions".  This may have been part of the issue we were having.

I have not played it since the 7th, so I'll have to make sure it's updated and see if that solved any issues.
