GOG & Heroes Might and Magic 3 (HOMM3)

Just bought my ROG today and spent hours doing all the updates for the O/S , hardware , bios, drivers , etc.

I installed GOG launcher to play heroes might and magic but to my big surprise, it launches the game (I can see the game in the taskbar launching) but then it closes it right away.

Anyone else having issues running GOG games on the ROG ? Am I missing something ?

I've tried two games from GOG. Stalker crashes immediately and Sine Mora Ex plays fine.

On a side note, Streets of Rage 4 from steam crashes instantly, so your game crashing isn't a GOG thing.

Same issue here, haven't tried other games though. I bought this thing specifically to play HoMM3 lol. Asus has duped me twice already - promised me headphones but arbitrarily cancelled my preorder registration and now this. EDIT: can't blame Asus for this one, shame xP

I was bummed about streets of rage and will send my crash dump to Dotemu. Maybe they can come up with a fix. Really not sure why I'm seeing as many games as I have not playing. Maybe the graphics driver? Hopefully Asus puts a lot of effort into this and we end up with a system we all hoped for. We are early adopters, so this is expected, as mush as we don't want to hear that.

That's too bad. My other option would be to find an .iso of HOMM3 or the setup from GOG but the whole point of the launcher was to make everything easier. If I try to run through asus all, it just launches the gog app anyway. 

I'll keep looking and I'll keeo you guys updated of I find a fix. It is early release like you said, I'm not mad, I was just too hopeful 😛

I solved it with some googling. You need to download hd mod and swap exe files if you want to run it via crate.

I ran the HOMM3 HD mod and created a HD .exe and it works perfectly, except you have to run it through the Heroes 3 HD.exe directly. If you try to go through Crate, it still tries to open the original .exe through gog launcher and the problem continues. But running in through the new created .exe works like a charm. Thanks a lot for your help !

Just rename the original file to w/e and the new one to the original's name. Works straight from the crate. You might also need to switch on directplay as it's disabled by default to skip windows features prompt (bugged me upon launch).

Hi! Just wanted to ask you about the solution. What do you mean by HD mod and swap exe files? Can you please explain it step bh step? I have the same issue but by downloading HOMM 3 from Ubisoft Plus.

Find HD mod for HoMM3 (it's a fan made patch of sorts). It will launch the game as well as generate a file, which you can swap with original (useless) .exe file. This will make it runnable from crate.
