That was my initial reaction as well, but from what others are saying on this forum and other forums this is simply shining through as Asus idea of QC. Board works fine so far, just a shame the buying experience was such a let down. With so many other companies out there I'm surprised they've taken this route. They could simply have added a seal to the box ...

Well coming from working for LG, i would say all these boards got reworked for the VRM heatsink reversion, they probably hired a bunch of temps to do the rework, which don't care about the way the boards handled, and my guess is the boards that come with the clear plastic attached are stock manufactured after the reversion.

That's the other thing I noticed when I got mine. No seal on the outer box. Simply flip the lid up and remove the clear plastic tray and there you have instant access to the board with little effort. You'd think for an $800 board there would at least a seal on it. All the other parts for my build have them; the Memory and especially the CPU.

Just spend 630€ on this motherboard and the board have scratches all over the I/O shield.

Protective film only on the small ROG logo under the CPU socket and I/O shield in the smal black metal part.

is this a flagship MB or a random 250€ MB?
some times we are more satisfied with a 250€ MB than a 600+€ flagship MB with no seal on it easy to open and bend the pins on the socket..

i wont buy any more ASUS hardware anymore, this board was my last. and trust me i spend alot of money on ASUS hardware on the past 10 years, all extreme editions, x99 was my last buy 3 years ago, i am totaly disappointed with this x299 board.

This is how mine came from caseeking.de (Asus support said that's normal)....Got some nice scratches on I/O shield ,no protective foil anywhere except on that ROG under CPU.Box is not sealed, that plastic on top of mobo is probably the reason for scratches on I/O shield. At least I'm not the only one.
All that for 730eur haha, but hey at least it works! 😄

Yeah that's how you would expect it come ,but it's pretty sad $1049 AU and that's how you receive it.
I did'nt get really any scratches more like dust but it polished up clean with a micro cloth.

I feel the same for the price, i ended up keeping the board using it now 🙂 but ill be contacting asus to get them to send me a replacement for the scratched cover, also noticed a kink in the ROG log taking it off to install my M.2.
