RTX 3090 PCIe 4.0 --> X299 Omega ? Im SAD

Dear All ,

I hope you are fine ?

There is just more than one leaks that said RTx 3090 will use PCIe 4.0 ----> All current X299 Are using PCIe. 3.0
My Question what we gonna do in this situation even Intel base on my research they dont have PCIE 4.0 only AMD atm ?

Can someone explain what we gonna do with our X299 OMEGA and others ?

But why tho Intel doesn't have PCIe 4.0 yet !!!!
I have 9960x and now i think i have to upgrade to AMD for PCIe 4.0 to take full performance & speed that's really bad for me to go to AMD since im big fan of Intel

Just , Imagine i will lose my hardware now because of Rtx 3090 How they decided to do PCIe4.0 without Intel that's big hint that AMD is quiet better than Intel atm for technology

I just hope that i do not need to upgrade my mobo and cpu to AMD since i've 9960x .. so if i want to move i will buy AMD threadripper 3990x can't go lower than this since i have 9960x

Actually , I'm very sad because thinking of upgrade my mobo and cpu just because RTx 3090 will come with PCIe Gen 4

If you ask me are you really taking full usage and performance in your current 9960x i would say only 30% .. so imagine upgrading to amd would be horrible for me & wasting of my money again on something that will never reach 70% of usage daily .... and losing my 9960x horrible days :(:(:(

well go look at this, You got to buy a rocket lake chip to get some pcie 4.0 but your board will never be FULLY Pcie 4.0
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/chipsets/desktop-chipsets/z490.html

i dont think it is gonna matter much.

On gaming currently PCI-E 4.0 is useless:cool:

I'd same experience long time ago, When Intel 3960X and my ROG RAMPAGE IV Extreme release with my AMD HD7970 the first PCIe 3.0 x 16 card on the world. (Those age).
3090 RTX was the first NVIDIA PCIe 4.0 x 16 should be the same issues.

1. Due it first adopt new PCIe link speed the scenario was many bugs as HD7970 one above. (I'd day one HD7970 before official release)
It took a few year later you'll find the right driver that can be archieve full PCIe link benefit.

2. CPU lane link may contained more jitter and signal behavior not stable. Many BIOS update required both motherboard and GPU itself.

3. Drivers problem with old block bluster games (Rise of Tomb Raider , GTA5 etc) cannot archive benefit of full PCIe link speed around years.

PCIE 2.0->PCIE 3.0 Era to PCIE 3.0 -> PCIE 4.0 Era should not be different. 😮
Maybe you will need next gen RTX 4000+ above as well to archive full PCIe 4.0 link benefit mate.
So , don't be worried too much. It just a transition age.

Chances are it won’t make any difference at all as pcie 3.0 isn’t maxed as it is.

If you look at actual testing of a 5700XT it has next to no benefit from going between pcie 2.0 16x and pcie 4.0 16x. Even my 2080Ti benefits very little between 8x and 16x if at all so there is a lot of bandwidth spare.

The only things that may benefit are the RTX IO that Jensen was talking about and even then that will be some time in the future to fully appreciate.

I’ve considered a 3090. But chances are IF pcie 4.0 makes a difference. I’ll likely skip this gen and wait for next gen boards with pcie 4.0 and DDR5 etc. My 2080Ti to be honest is doing very well in the games and resolutions I play. 3090 would be way overkill most likely.

RTX 3090 may be Tuned for PCIe 4.0. However they used the 10900k for the RTX 3080 test results in their performance graphs. Intel Core i9 10900k is PCIe 3.0. This tells me that they most likely tuned it for both PCIe 3.0 and 4.0.

Thanks all for your reply
I'm going to order :
RTx 3090 OC Hydro Copper & update this Thread 2 Months later .
Also for PCIe 4.0 I'm going to w8 for Intel to produce PCIe 4.0 or either next gen of PCie 5.0
I'm not going to buy AMD just fan of intel and proud of performance on My PC component

Forget the 3090 RTX mate you must use 3099 RTX instead
