What is newest Asus compatible mobo could I purchase for a direct replacement of this board?  I need to keep the Optane adapter for SSD and 128GB memory and I7 CPU  - Thanks!

Direct replacement? I honestly wouldn't bother replacing it if you intend on keeping the CPU, X299 is EOL.
