R6EO Instability

Still having stability issues with bios 0504. I had installed windows with 0218 with no problems at all. CPU is by SL. I keep getting problems on cold boot. I had BD memory error 2 days ago and changed the Uncore voltage from auto to 0.200 and it crashed without getting to windows. Decreased Uncore to 0.100 and it went through Memtest 400% with no errors and, more importantly, it did not crash. I had already tested the memory outside windows with no errors. On cold boot this morning, I had another crash with Uncore at 0.100V. Machine came back up with "memory is OK, press F1 to save memory settings." I decreased Uncore to 0.050V.

Where to go from here? As I said, I installed windows with 0218 bios version and no problems.

As mentioned previously, with that density the margins will always be tight at those speeds. You need to look at the sub timings, too.

What tweaks do you recommend?

Is this with Tweak Mode 1 enabled? 19-23 is loose. You really might want to consider backing off on frequency.

I don’t find Tweak mode 1 in the bios. I looked under memory timings but found no settings for that. The published timings for this kit is 19, 19, 19, 23. *

Have you posted the kit PN at all?

They might have removed those options on this gen, will have to check. Testing needs to be methodical, I notice you’ll adjust VCCSA and IO and also DIMM voltage. The module voltage should be the last thing you really adjust.

VCCIO and VCCSA need to be adjusted in 10 to 15mv increments. Too much can also be just as detrimental as too little.*

The part number is in my signature. Thanks. *

Tweak mode 1 is on auto I think. I'll check when I get off work. Thanks.

Well, I gave up. Never could get the memory stable tweaking the voltages. I had been tweaking when work allowed. I just downclocked the memory to 3733 as that was an XMP setting that seems stable. Thanks to LiveOrDie and SScone for their input, and others. I hope another bios will be released to allow 4000. I just never considered recording all the voltages previously as I never had any issues reflashing an older bios until now. 0218 worked quite well. ??
