R6E Encore BIOS 1403 vs 2001

Hi,

I'm currently running BIOS 1403 stable at 5.1 GHz on a 10940X.  The system is 100% stable.  Is there any reason to upgrade to BIOS 2001, from a performance standpoint?

Regarding the uCode updates for the x299 CPUs 109x0 XE and the 79x0 XE. 

All uCodes released since the "Downfall" security mitigation nuked the AVX-512 performance (especially for programs that use scatter and gather instructions). Generally, all uCodes after "Downfall" has been to patch even more security concerns (like "logofail" etc) and very little has been about improving performance. However, the latest round of uCode mitigation did improve Core-to-Core latency in some test. See various post on this forum. Especially @restsugavan posts.  This applies to both 109x0 and 79x0 CPUs since the security patches were applied uniformly across x299 CPUs (basically all having the same base architecture and therefor the same security vulnerabilities and same/similar fixes).

I actually rolled back to an early BIOS for that reason since I make heavy use of programs that relay in performant AVX-512.

No reason. It's more about security vulnerabilities - if You care about security, You should update 🙂

What about the microcode updates?  I have a hard time believing that two years of development on microcode has yielded nothing in terms of performance.  Or has it been nothing but performance downgrades for the sake of security?

Some says, that newer microcode downgrades performance, but i dont care.

To archived Skylake X Optimal Performance by it architect and design originally by Intel Engineer.

Overclock the core to 4.4 GHz or higher.

By Skylake S / X / SP / W / D architect and design @4.4 GHz speed or higher it will game changer.
