Why did ASUS Engineer design CMOS battery placement so badly?

Do you think ROG RAMPAGE VI EXTREME CMOS battery never run out ?

Only one battery replacement need more than 60 min to disassemble the ROG Armor.

Please do not use these method for next ROG RAMPAGE VII EXTREME for Icelake X
or not I will choose other brand instead.

Can’t believe the most expensive mobo also expensive time to replace CMOS battery 🔋

Beware everyone only 3 years battery run out shortly. And you’ll see this experience like me.

I ran into this problem this week the cmos battery died. I have a custom loop also. I ended up cutting the two wires off the old battery and soldering on a single cr2032 holder and routed it to the outer part of the motherboard on the bottom.
Here is the holder i used: https://www.adafruit.com/product/4856
hope this will help someone 🙂

But you still have to dissassamble all your loop? I have a custom loop with hardtubes and 2 GPUs and my battery died yesterday.
So now i have to dissassamble the whole system?

How do you remove the Armor, I have removed the lower right section, but how to remove the rest? Is it held in place with screw access from the the back / underneath the motherboard? I cant seem to find out how?

Kind regards.

You will have to remove the MB completely. The armor is held on by about 8 screws that can only be accessed from the back side. In addition, the MB edge-lit LED panel is also attached with several screws and you will need to remove that to access one last screw holding the armor plate. A major PITA.

I just discovered the same problem. How did you get the battery out? Did you have to remove the black vinyl to find a traditional battery latch release somewhere? Is an after-market holder described above the only solution? What a freaking mess!

Thanks for your post, I am about to do the teardown now .. I love the look but really  should be a 2 minute job 😭 as every other board.

After the experience of a full teardown, I will not being that again....

Added an extra cable and a modded RGB cable..  will  make it a quick swap if the battery dies in 5 years
