Today Intel announced Intel® Xeon® 600 Processors for Workstation (GNR-W) - Platform Brief for the W890 chip set.
Models start at 12 cores and tops out 86 cores - all Redwood Cov P cores (no crappy E cores). The higher end SKUs are Overclockable. RAM is RDIMM or MRDIMM. 128 lanes of PCIe 5.0.
What is your take on it?
Is this the v.next platform for us X299 HEDT people?
Intel returns to boxed workstation CPUs with Xeon 600 — Granite Rapids WS delivers up to 86 co...
Xeon 600 W890 is technically workstation class and not the traditional X series HEDT BUT there is no other spiritual successor, so this is the closest we get.
Cost is a huge factor, and the platform is not priced at traditional the X-class HEDT level, so I guess it's either this or the much weaker Core Ultra 200 platform which is definitely not HEDT.
So, what do you guys think?

@Int8bldr Shamino <zaitama from one punch man> and his buddy trying to build our ASUS RAMPAGE VII EXTREME already
4 GHz + all 86 Redwood Cove Core indeed on ASUS RAMPAGE VII EXTREME PROTOTYPE

Thanks for the reference!
I think they are using the upcoming ASUS WS W890 Sage (not the rampage) but it looks impressive.
here is the link to ASUS web site: Pro WS W890E-SAGE SE
The board also support MRDIMMs which is truly extreme for a WS board. It's data center tech Multiplexed RDIMMs which will provide insane bandwidth.

the youtube video states they set 20 new world record posted on HWbot.or. most are memory world records proving that the 8-channel memory architecture supporting MRDIMMs is insanely fast. bandwidth is crazy.
nice to see ASUS, intel and the OC community are working together iteratively to improve and get max out of the new Granite Rapids systems!

the board layout. it has the EEB size. need a new case...
notice that it has 6 x 8pin 12V power connectors - crazy power delivery!
7 x PCIe 5.0 x 16 slots. the PCIe bandwidth!
USB 4.0
one more thing on RDIMMs - I've decided to move to Registered Error correcting RAM in my next build. my current X299 build sometimes and increasingly over time has started to generate errors that I think is related to the RAM. I have 128GB of RAM in my X299 and it's just a fact that, as these modules age they will be a source for more random errors. it's not worth the headache to use normal DRAMs when I go up to with even more RAM, e.g. 256GB etc in my next build. ONE BIG problem with all of this COST!!!! especially MRDIMM cost. But this MB is not going to be cheap either. I suspect closer to $2K than to $1K.
funny thing the CPU cost is becoming a smaller % part of the overall system build.
true WS class board. compare this to the lame high end consumer level board: Core Ultra 200 platform.

They've going beyond 6 GHz on Intel XEON 698X buddy.

Asus will probably release a Rampage XII Extreme to go with these CPUs, if Intel releases a variant of the series (like our 10 series, for example).
The Sage is more for Xeon ?
Probably my future platform, if there's an R7E version, but I'll wait for DDR5 prices to drop 😂
