BIOS update needed to run i9 10980XE in Rampage VI?

I have a new 10980XE on the way to replace my 7900X. Before I removed the MB I forgot to note what BIOS version I was running. As far as I know it was the original BIOS that came with the board when I bought it in 2017. Will I need to flash the BIOS with a more current version to run the 10980XE? Since the 7900X and the 10980XE are from the same "family" will the new CPU run with the same BIOS, or will the greater number of cores or other features require a newer BIOS? If so, where can I download that BIOS file? I've searched the web and this site, but can't find any links to download a file. ASUS seems to have orphaned this board. Will the BIOS files for the Encore and Omega models work for the original Rampage VI Extreme?

Hi,

You need BIOS 3006 or more recent if you want to install an i9-10980XE CPU with your ASUS ROG Rampage VI Extreme motherboard.

Here is the last BIOS 3701 for your ASUS ROG Rampage VI Extreme motherboard : https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/BIOS/ROG-RAMPAGE-VI-EXTREME-ASUS-3701.zip

Note : [Motherboard] How to use USB BIOS FlashBack™ ?.

Hi MoKiChU,

I noticed you provided the steps for using the BIOS Flashback method to update the BIOS. Is this the preferred method over just using a USB drive and the EZ-Flash utility within the BIOS? Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the Flashback method skip checking the BIOS is compatible with the board (namely doesn't verify the checksum)?

Thanks.

Flashback bios will be useful either to downgrade bios or to update bios when new processor comes out if motherboard bios is not already up to date

Hi cekeu,

Makes sense and thank you.

Sorry for hijacking this thread but I wanted to ask that related question for the benefit of others who might read it and think is the BIOS Flashback preferred over updating within the BIOS and I was also curious to know the answer.
