Hi Guys,

I wander if someone can help, I am attempting to Locate the CMON battery Location on my Asus Rog Strix x299-e gaming ii motherboard but for the life of me, I am unable to locate it. I have seen some people say it's located on top left hand of the motherboard but my motherboard has a Shield covering it, not sure if you can even take them off, I have attached a photo below.

any advice would help a lot, I am not good with computers and this was a pre-built system I ordered.

Thank you in advance.

The CMOS battery is rechargeable and can be replaced as a unit. The screws for removing the shroud are located under the motherboard. You will have to remove the motherboard from the case completely to access them. A good video describing the location and replacement process can be seen here. There are cautions to pay attention to in the video. https://youtu.be/rwbqs6_csSc?si=-sK1A0NditaOVkbB

It looks like it's under the nvme heatsink at the bottom of the board.

unfortunately it's not there 😞

Sorry, my mistake.  I missed the II at the end of the printed name on the mobo.  The II version of the mobo has no battery holder.  This is the 1st time I've ever seen anything like that, where you have to supply your own battery holder.

ASUS seems to be getting very cheap - especially for what you have to pay for the mobo.  😞

Any idea how I can take off the backplate covering it? Can’t see a screw or anything.
