Asus Rampage VI Extreme Encore + Intel Core i9-10980XE quest for best DDR4

frustrata

Hello,
I upgraded from Asus Rampage V Extreme + 5960X + 1080TI to Asus Rampage VI Extreme Encore + Intel Core i9-10980XE + 3080TI
Power Supply is also upgraded from 1000W to 1250W.
I now want to upgrade old 32GB 2666 RAM (HyperX) as well to either 64GB or possibly 128GB
.. and hopefully not touch the system for a looong time 🙂

That is where it got real confusing for me. The choice of DDR4 RAM

What I am looking for is stability (first importance) and then performance (second importance).
So far it is obvious that I should get them as a kit since stability is of paramount importance.

Asus QVL seems outdated or at least does not have many of the current ones.

As a siee note, if left to me I would still follow QVL and get either one of these and move on:
HyperX Predator HX432C16PB3AK4/64 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL 16
HyperX Predator*HX430C15PB3K8/128 128GB (8 x 16GB) DDR4-3000 CL15
(which one would you choose?)

I would like to hear fellow RVIE Encore users ideas and recommendations on this RAM dilemna.
Possibly DOs and DONTs for this setup.

Nobody did 64GB or 128GB kit on RVIEE in Quad?

The answer is simple. If You don't need 128GB, take 4x 16 - 4 banks filled = less stress for Integrated memory controller and very likely better OC if You will decide to push them a little higher in the future.

I agree this HyperX Predator HX432C16PB3AK4/64 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL 16 makes more sense in that way.

Since QUAD mode will be in effect, anyone tried 32GB sticks for Quad 4x32GB?
I do not overclock much at all,
Some might question rightfully why a RVIEE then, well I found a great deal by chance which I could not resist the itch so to speak.

The logic is pretty similar to audio solution I use for decades, get very best JBL speakers you can afford, pair them with vintage amps with real muscle and damping factor, you are in heaven no matter what you listen to!

In computers I used Asus Rampage Extremes since forever and never had an issue. Once I had tried a Sabertooth, what a bad experience it was, so I get best Rampage Extreme, pair that with best components I can get at the time.
I simply want to do this once and right, and hopefully forget about it many many years to come.

I do very heavy photo stuff so that is why if I can do 128GB via 4x32GB I would prefer it that naturally.
Unfortunately there were no 128GB in Quad configuration in QVL for HyperX DDR4 except the ones at the very top, but then these cost more than double the money I paid for MB+CPU, does not make sense naturally.

That is why I prefer a bit more modest solution via HyperX.

Anyone tried 32GB HyperX sticks for Quad 4x32GB on this MB?

HX430C15PB3K8/128 should work without any problem too. If You are not OCing, there is no difference between 4 and 8 sticks for You.

For ex. one of the reasons of my frustration, hence this thread, take that HX430C15PB3K8/128 128GB (8 x 16GB)
In QVL it exists but 8 DIMMS is not supported.

How can this even be?

RVIEE supports 256GB and this can only be done via 8x32GB sticks.
I am surprised not to see even a single entry in QVL for 256GB.

There is a handful of 128GB configurations most of which are now-non-existant RAMs.

RAM is not a cheap component to experiment with, especially top-tier ones!
US is the best place for these experimentsâ since RMAing a product is easiest if it does not work, contrary to Europe, it is comparatively harder here.

I am guessing most logical option for now is to start with this one:
HyperX Predator HX432C16PB3AK4/64 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL 16
It s in QVL (and fully too not like 128GB 3000Mhz above), it has mediocre performance, then learn, experiment and move from there.

Anybody has an idea if this is a good start? ..or is there one I totally missed?

You can try with G.SKILL. They have their own QVL. For example - https://www.gskill.com/product/165/166/1571734171/F4-3200C16Q2-256GVK-Overview

What a coincidence, I was just examining this one there:
