Core i9 7980XE ( Skylake X SKUs ) on Microsoft Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22000.51

Many friends ask me about Microsoft CPU support list for Windows 11.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-inte...

Some people running on Kabylake X and Skylake X SKUs worried about their CPUs which not on Microsoft list above.
I can bold proof here your CPU capable running Windows 11 when its final release.

Kabylake X and Coffeelake are the same microarchitect ( Skylake Microarchitect based )
Skylake X SKUs and Skylake SP are the same microarchitect. ( Skylake SP Microarchitect based )

See on video link below how good was Skylake X SKUs perform?

Hi restsugavan,

Many thanks for this information. I strongly hope you are correct. Why should we have to replace our Core i9 7980XE CPUs when they are more than capable of running Windows 11?

I ran the Microsoft PC Health Checker application (just before it was taken down) and it confirms my system can run Windows 11. Like you, I have a TPM v2.0.

I realize the Core i9 7980XE does not offer hardware mitigations for Meltdown/Spectre vulnerabilities and this is perhaps why Microsoft would choose to only allow 8th gen Intel CPUs or higher but is it such a big deal that the Core i9 7980XE could use software mitigations instead e.g. Reptoline?

Asus published their list of Windows 11 CPUs and motherboards and the 7980XE is not on it:

https://videocardz.com/press-release/asus-publishes-a-list-of-windows-11-compatible-motherboards

I am becoming concerned. I will be watching this thread closely for more news. I really do not want to purchase an Intel 10980XE.

Thanks again for keeping us informed.

interestingly, 99x0X and 9980XE does not show up either on the windows 11 compatibility CPU list you linked to....
Only 109x0X/XE shows up among the X299 CPUs. hm...

There are at least a few CPUs not on that list that are fine. My 9980xe is not, for example but it is fine.

The Health Check app will tell you if you are ready. In my case changing stuff in the Bios was all that was needed. If your CPU is less than four years old you should but may not be fine.

But then, have you seen this list? There is no way of knowing how accurate it is though. Note that it unfortunately lists 7980xe as not being supported. 😞

https://allthings.how/list-of-all-intel-and-amd-processors-not-supported-by-windows-11/

Before giving up though, there are a few things to consider:

1. Your Bios. Is it UEFI? This is required.
2. Your Bios. Can you switch TPM (or PPT or whatever) on?
3. If your Bios is UEFI but you cannot simply turn on TPM, is it possible for you to get the TPM hardware chip?
4. If you do get the TPM hardware chip, will it be enough? Maybe yes, maybe no.
5. Formal requirements for Windows 11 have not been written in stone yet.

Tell me there is some way to get a system with a Rampage III Black Edition mb and Intel i7 six core 990x CPU to run WIndows 11, please. And how?

Thanks for letting others know that SKUs not listed work fine.

Hi mates , @Super Gnome @JTZ1032 and everyone.

Due Windows 11 itself were on development ,
The final product minimum requirement hardware could be subject change with out notice later.

The Skylake X SKUs and Skylake X Refresh SKUs ( Core i9 78XX,79XX and 99XX ) were support by Windows 11 officially.

Both may not list on Microsoft CPU support list due it was EOL products from Intel internal documents.
However those SKUs above were the same Microarchitect and internal CPU die configuration as Intel XEON Scalable processor 1st gen ( It was XEON Gold series which not EOL same as HEDT parts ) . which Microsoft list on Windows 11 CPU supported.

You'll check via the second digit of XEON GOLD model which support by Microsoft document below link.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-inte...

89281

Core i9 78XX/79XX/99XX were the same SKUs as XEON Scalable 1st Gen

The second digit of XEON/XEON W SKUs mean microarchitect level of it here
for example , XEON Gold 6 [1] 32 ,
[1] = Skylake SP [2] = CascadeLake SP [3] Cooperlake SP or Icelake SP

Then everyone please enjoy and relaxing with Microsoft Windows 11 which your
78XX/79XX/99XX processors. It was official support by Microsoft Windows 11 natively.
