Windows 8

Well , I don’t know where to start , it’s love and hate. First of all I try it on my Maximus IV Extreme Z, I experience few hang and I have to create a new User Name because the Metro Apps was not working anymore , I will use it only in VM as it’s not yet ready for production. I really like the new spelling corrector in IE 10 ( no need to use Word anymore ( as I do with this post ).

I like the new Task Manager , We can mount ISO now with Windows 8, No need for install Adobe Reader ( and their f*** updates) It’s kind of good to have ll the apps in a start page, all true it’s not enough configurable for a PC users

What I dislike, Well Microsoft is pushing too far, no start button, now shutdown button (well they have one, but it’s quite unfriendly to use) You have to use key shortcuts to avoid the non-friendly layout of everything. It’s not so simple if you are not using Hotmail for your Email.

I understand Microsoft have hard time with the Phone market, their presence in the tablet market is not what they will like to be. But if they insist to keep thing like it is, corporates world will not make the move to Windows 8, Peoples who are not too much computer literate, will not like to use key shortcuts, and they are a lot of peoples in that cases, a lot of peoples who use their PC only for Browse, email and Facebook.

Yesterday when I show Windows 8 to one of my best customer he ask me if it will not be time to switch to Mac, for is business PCs , Why ? ; well is great children’s use iPhone, iPod, iPad and they like it.

So Microsoft ; we don’t want a Phone OS for our desktop, Apple OSX is not a phone OS, So why you want to impose something we don’t want ?

Now for you members here; Windows 8 is the worst thing that can happen to us, Microsoft is in the direction to have their entire software host on the Web, and they want us to rent them. So the next step will be small PC that will log on the web to go get not only the software, but probably the OS too, or at least part of it. So it’s means that US enthusiast who like to build ROG machines, well, they will not work soon.

Let’s talk about the Patriot Act; For me Canadian, it’s means that if my info, my documents are host in a Microsoft server ( in the case of office 360 as example ) Well the US government can have a look at it, since Microsoft is a US company. Sorry Microsoft and US gouv. I want to keep my stuff in my PC. I’m not a treat for anyone, so I don’t need anyone look at my things.

I need to have an eyes on my emails, as the servers and Anti-virrus of my customers send me messages. with remote access , I do 80 % of my work from home.

I also have my own PC Repair business, and email is about 60% of my existing customer communtication, and about 80% of my new customer communication. I have the preview pane enabled in MS Office 2010, and it works great for me.

Now about Windows 8. My main concern being a CEH and paranoid about my personal security, is MS having my info in a "cloud." There is however the "local logon" option in W8. I do not see the "average person" liking windows 8 at all! The "average" person doesn't like extreme change. I know i will be getting lots of business from this OS, but it the type of business i don't want. The nagging questions, and complaints about "stupid" things that end up being PEBCAK due to lack of know how.

I see windows going in a good direction with having a tablet, smart phone OS, but i see them failing to make this product as it is now appealing to the desktop and laptop users. Who wants to be constantly touching their monitor, or laptop LCD to make operation of the OS easier? I sure don't and my customers with a touch screen laptop never use the touch screen part lol. When i ask why, they simply reply thats its too "un-natural." I hate to say it but humans in general are lazy. We like to be comfortable whith everything that we do. I don't see anyone using the "tablet like" functions of W8, even if they have the capability to do it. Most people like to be leaning back in their nice comfortable chair surfing the web and watching video's, not hunched over making their back and shoulders sore touching and swiping on their desktop monitor. screw that lol.

Lets all hope that like W7, MS pulls their head out of their butt and either:

- Makes a W8 version with no metro style apps
- Makes a "Desktop/Laptop" version of W8
- Gives the options in all versions to disable the metro apps, and re-enable the start button
- Allows the metro apps to be in a "list" type view, and can be alphabetized.

Just my 2 cents 🙂

I want to try this on a Kingston 30GB. I guess the 64bit version of Windows 8 is ok to try on it right? I`m just curious to see how it looks and moves.

Looks like I won't be going to Windows 8. I don't like the idea of anyone telling me what I can and can't do with hardware I spent thousands of dollars on.

You guys do realise that the windows lockdown thing is only actually intended for tablets and interactive touchscreen things so that people can't install Android on them, right?

They aren't planning on using that on desktop computers at all.

They was planning to use it when they design it, they may be have change their mind because of the reaction of the peoples, nothing is certain, I have not yet see an official statement of Microsoft on it. And may I ask; why if I purchase a tablet with Windows 8, I can’t install Android if I want? Of course Microsoft is at war with Google, they hate Google, they try 2 search engines, they fail, and Microsoft lost a big share of the phone market because of Google.

If you ask me , I love my Windows, I love my Hyper-V servers, but i think Microsoft make enough money like this, if peoples don't like their phone solution, well they don't need to force US by making a phone OS for our desktop.

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with it either nor am I in favour of much of Windows *, it's clunky and ugly and without a touchscreen the interface makes no sense whatsoever.

All I'm saying is that the OS lockdown is designed and intended for touchscreen tablet market products so that Microsh*te can pump out OS locked tablets of their own.

If it's a product they made, they have every legal right to lock the product to an OS of their choice.

However, a desktop built PC is not their product, it is not their property, therefore they have no legal right to contract you into using an operating system that locks out competitors, because if they do it's going to be contested in court by thousands of people and Microsh*te will lose an absolute fortune in settlement claims.

Then shouldn't they distinguish between wether Win8 is installed on a tablet/touchscreen or on a standard PC???
Sorry if it's a stupid question, I know practically nothing about programing and whatnot. 😛
