TO update BIOS or not to update the BIOS. That is the question!

Hopefully I'm on the wrong part of the forum for this profound question. Will updating the BIOS in the G750JW do anything to the SSD I recently installed? In other words, having recently installed the SSD, will that have any impact on updating the BIOS.

Oh yeah! Cooling pads for laptops are almost mandatory... well, if you enjoy the sound of cooling fans, then not... 😄

People are so frightened with BIOS updates because an incorrectly done one can render your system useless... you have to be aware of what you are doing and do everything as you should do it - that's why I'm saying to read the guides before you do it!

Let me ask again for the first time. Will Fan Xpert 2 work or do any good on a G750JW?

Another has said the cooling fans on these cooling pads is so fierce, they blow the vertical blinds back and forth. I cannot believe the fans on these are that strong. I have never used one before so I of course wouldn't know for sure.

You will have to search/ask for that in the laptop section...

Ok. Thank you for that.

Exactly. Right now, people are updating Intel 200 series mobos with a new BIOS which adresses the Optane technology compatibility. I do not see a reason to do that if I am not going to buy an Optane module.

A PERSONAL REQUEST: If you have a new ASUS motherboard and if you are not planning to use the Cablemod discount coupon, PM it to me, please.

I'm not planning on using Intel Optane either. At this point it's still a pipe dream. Lots of talk with no delivery. About like ASUS with the XG2 that has been talked about for over a year and still not available in the US and where it is available they have been a failure. *By the time optane may or may not be a reality it will be obsolete, about like their attempt at SSDs with the 750 series that was superseded before it was released.*

There are some other key points with z270 chipset bios updates. *PXE fixed, Plextor M2s now working, memtest 86 fixed for a few. Again though if none of this has any offerings for what your use is it's best to leave it be.*

Some like flashing just because they can, nothing wrong with it so long as you know what you are doing and understand the consequences if things don't go 100% as planned. Most MOBOs now are forgiving where you can flash back or even replace the *BIOS ROM chips. Laptops are an entirely different beast. One mistake or malfunction and its bricked. The ROM chips are not replaceable and just getting to it to pull the battery and clip on a ROM *reader takes complete disassembly, been there and done that trying to get 2800 MHz Dram to work on a G752VY. It won't go last 2400 BTW!*
