SPECTRE and MELTDOWN: Bug rocks Intel / ARM CPUs

Kinda glad I bought AMD this round. For those who don't know there is a new bug affecting just about every SKU from Intel made in the last .. ohh.. _DECADE_ or so. It's actually worse then F00F or FDIV. Only mitigation appears to castrate the CPU upward of 30%! (depending on processes).

Can Asus confirm AMD and more importantly for me, this or any AMD motherboard are not affected? If so, will there be RMAs?

Fun fact, Intel's CEO dumped stock back in November before they started issuing gags on people from even talking about it.

I think Torvalds is talking about the software changes, not the CPU microcode that is needed for Spectre variant 2 (and apparently somewhat buggy).

Curiouser and curiouser

"The patches do things like add the garbage MSR writes to the kernel entry/exit points. That's insane. That says "we're trying to protect the kernel". We already have retpoline there, with less overhead. So somebody isn't telling the truth here. Somebody is pushing complete garbage for unclear reasons. Sorry for having to point that out.
If this was about flushing the BTB at actual context switches between different users, I'd believe you. But that's not at all what the patches do. As it is, the patches are COMPLETE AND UTTER GARBAGE. They do literally insane things. They do things that do not make sense. That makes all your arguments questionable and suspicious. The patches do things that are not sane."

At least I now know how many times you can question somethings sanity in one paragraph before sounding silly.

Hmm Sounds like the good ole M$ days, we need a patch for the patch LOL...

Is there still no official word from ASUS what is the intent for the Z97 and older boards?
