SPECTRE and MELTDOWN: Bug rocks Intel / ARM CPUs

Kinda glad I bought AMD this round. For those who don't know there is a new bug affecting just about every SKU from Intel made in the last .. ohh.. _DECADE_ or so. It's actually worse then F00F or FDIV. Only mitigation appears to castrate the CPU upward of 30%! (depending on processes).

Can Asus confirm AMD and more importantly for me, this or any AMD motherboard are not affected? If so, will there be RMAs?

Fun fact, Intel's CEO dumped stock back in November before they started issuing gags on people from even talking about it.

Hey, mind if I ask where did you get that program that checks for the vulnerabilities?

Hi sblantipodi and ravenomega

Yep that's the link !

Have you made sure windows 10 fall creators update is fully updated ?

I had Meltdown fixed but Spetcre was not, updating windows 10 fall creators update solved Spectre.

I did the Asus 1102 patch for the Asus Rampage 6 Extreme and even after the BIOS update, it shows STILL as vulnerable. 😞

Here's what happened with me and why I thought Spectre was windows update.

I was on windows 10 anniversary update with bios 1203, when I ran it the first time Spectre was vulnerable, Meltdown had the green checkmark.

I updated to windows 10 fall creators update, ran the checker and both were vulnerable, updated windows 10 fall creators update and both are safe.

If it is a bios update you need let's hope ASUS rolls one out soon, I'm pretty sure they will as this is a big deal.

So, in the meantime let's see if there is a performance hit. Would it be a fair comparison if I was on bios 1203 and anniversary update vs. the fall creators update as the patches and updates came from windows ? There was a cpu microcode update in bios 1203 but it didn't seem to hurt gaming performance as far as I could tell.

I used the same Nvidia driver with the same overclock.

Here is my thing. On the security page for Asus it says those of us who have the x299 motherboards, all we need is to download the 1102 BIOS and boom all done. This apparently is not the case. On the webpage there is nothing else that it says that we need to do. So the BIOS 1102 comes out that says adds the microcode but the vulnerability is not fixed. There are no directions, instructions or any help from Asus what-so-ever. So I'm left wondering:

1. Is 1102 supposed to fix both Spectre and Meltdown?
2. If so why isn't it and is there anything else we need as a End User need to do, to get this completely resolved?
3. If not, (lets say it only fixes one) is there another BIOS update coming to address the Spectre side?
4. Are you planning to update your website with this relevant and useful information?
