SPECTRE and MELTDOWN: Bug rocks Intel / ARM CPUs

Kinda glad I bought AMD this round. For those who don't know there is a new bug affecting just about every SKU from Intel made in the last .. ohh.. _DECADE_ or so. It's actually worse then F00F or FDIV. Only mitigation appears to castrate the CPU upward of 30%! (depending on processes).

Can Asus confirm AMD and more importantly for me, this or any AMD motherboard are not affected? If so, will there be RMAs?

Fun fact, Intel's CEO dumped stock back in November before they started issuing gags on people from even talking about it.

Still no answer from ASUS for older motherboards (Z97) I find this very disappointing given the current threat. I just want a yes we are working on it or a no we have no plans so I can weigh up my options and take action now as the longer we wait the more dangerous the threat will become.

Am I being unreasonable?

Is there any Info, if the Bios for the normal Rampage V extreme will be getting an update?

PS: Sorry for my english, im not a native speaker 😉

You're English is better than half the native speakers here so no probs there..

No, no info on that as yet...just have to wait a while I guess

We just have to wait at the end of Jan that is when ASUS start push out the new BIOS. If MSI doesn't support Z97 at all than there's possibility ASUS won't either. Let's hope ASUS will push out the new BIOS for Z87 and Z97 boards.

No you're not being unreasonable. This is a major security flaw and either Asus will patch the bios on the Z97 boards or just leave all of us unprotected from this vulnerability. It's really not asking much to expect a SECURITY update for something this serious.

STILL WAITING ASUS..........

And from there https://www.asus.com/News/V5urzYAT6myCC1o2
its : "Hey ! its 6th 7th or 8th, rest of you can go just buy a new computer to be secure right"

I really hope not but I'm still waiting for some word on my Maximus Hero vii as well...

With respect to Meltdown and Spectre really, there isn't much time left before workable exploit code starts to make its way to the public Internet. The code has been patched in Linux for quite some time now giving scum plenty of time to reverse engineer the mitigations.

Asus really need to start addressing whether they plan to actually deal with these issues or whether they give their customers the poop covered end of the stick. The canned "It's a CPU fault not a motherboard fault" is tiresome and irrespective of its technical correctness , it technically exposes all of their customers to an extremely severe security problem.

Asus, I have 3 Rampage V Extreme based Systems at present and one Rampage VI Extreme based system. Either you are capable of addressing security concerns or I stop buying your products irrespective of which CPU vendor they are for. When are you planning to support your products or should I start looking at alternatives now?
